I'm looking for a good venue for a metal band to play in Napier, anyone got any ideas?
my two cents - the hip hop stage last big day out was actually a truck. a really big one. that evolved with the help of a few cranes into a stage.

"Stylus are playing one special gig at the new Hysteria Bar on K'Rd (it used to be called the Rock Bar) with our buddies Redline and Remote, tickets are $30 presales from the bar or $40 doorsales. This sounds like a lot but you get 5 free standard beers or spirits for that so its all good! Merch from both bands available on the night, see you there!
Some gig guides this week have Stylus listed to play Kings Arms on Thurs, this is incorrect, the only gig Stylus are playing is at Hysteria on Sat. "
Braden Page from College Hill is also good, he can make any venue sound including hard ones like Studio.
I have just recently added a clause into my bands performance contract that stipulates that the band will need a certain amount of time for soundcheck and that they will be making a lot of noise. This way the venue owner knows in advance when and how much noise is going to take place, if he still has locals complaining then its his problem.
Of course its always on a case by case basis as venues and bar managers are never the same. helps to get it down in writing though and always take a copy of the contract with you so you can show what was agreed on.
We also have a problem with locals hanging around at soundcheck and then expecting not to pay to see the bands, this pisses me off no end but some good venues will give you a bouncer to accompany you round the bar collecting their money or asking them to leave.
Brewers at the mount is great, we had some locals refusing to pay money so the bar stopped serving them alcohol and made them leave.
What about that one friend who comes to every gig and helps you carry the gear to the car? Got one of those? Or (and I know this is scary) try a girlfriend, hey it worked for Ozzy :-)
Hey boys, you guys rock!! I heard you have a new album coming out, when can i get it !!!! I cant wait, oh and I saw your guitarist on c4, he was in an easter egg eating contest, did he feel sick after???
I was told by a fairly reliable source that you guys are changing your name?
is this true?
Can anyone confirm or deny that Stylus 77 are changing their name? And if so what are they changing it too.
Generally Stylus' song Sick Of This is about being in space/place where you feel like you don't belong and in my humble opinion (although I have never been institutioniliised (sp?)) thats pretty close to how i would feel if i was in a mental hospital. It is (as all songs are) open for interpretation but I really don't think you should take it as an insult to anyone who has spent time in an institution, the band would have never have had that intention when shooting the video. And I'm sure 48May didn't either.
You could also try Phantom for postering and flyer drops, they can do other creative stuff too like street stencilling etc call 0800phantom
Just as a final comment on this line of discussion. The show went great, was sold out and everyone had a fantastic time no matter what band they were there to see. All the bands involved were very happy with how the gig went and there was definatley no issues as to band genres. So I guess that proves my above point.
8 Foot manage themselves, they have complete control over what gigs they play.
Ha. Ha. Thats funny, considering you just made a dick of yourself with that comment. How do you know whether or not someone knows about metal. You make some pretty big assumptions mate. I know 8 Foot and if they didn't want to play with Stylus they wouldn't be would they.
And I'm going to repeat my other comment. The promoter of this show wouldn't be going with this line up if he thought people would walk out, after all the idea is for him to give the punters a good show and make a bit of money.
We get it that you don't like nu metal. So get over it and say something intelligent and constructive.
Besides, if you listened to Stylus' album you would realise they are far more diverse then you give them credit for, they are also an awesomely talented live band that goes off whenever they play the Rocky so I doubt that they will have anyone walking out at New years, even if they are metal fans.
