Ah yes, the old all ages venues debate.
Basically, for an upcoming article I'm writing for Tearaway magazine about youth venues, I've got a few questions for y'all.
Are there not enough decent all ages venues around the place and is that the reason why there are few all ages gigs?
Or, is it that bands don't like playing to teenage audiences?
Is there a need out there for more all ages venues, or is it pointless?
I'm after a whole heap of opinions - you can trash the idea, whatever. Anything goes. Go nuts. Yell or something.
Any... assistance is much appreciated.
If you've got any useful specifics, or you're intensely passionate about this "topic" (and perhaps wouldn't mind being interviewed), feel free to send me an email, bobsonshovel@hotmail.com
Thanks!
sooooooooooo loving the video for 'my army of birds and gulls'
its really grand.
more shots of chris garland please.
request noodles
woo, yeah, me again. i really loved the album and my article about pluto will be in the march issue of tearaway.
excellent stuff
um, hi pluto forum people. i'm sarah and i'm in need of some background info about pluto for an interview/article i am writing for tearaway. so if you can help in any way, shape or form it would be REALLY helpful. you can either post it here or email me on bobsonshovel@hotmail.com
cheers guys.
excellent article jehan. that was really good. i loved it. you are such a good writer.
waaaaaaahaaaaaaaa. oh dear... yeti goes crazy.
if you go to the evermore website and then click on to their forum, you will find in the general discussion the edited fat ladies arms gig story.
it has photos too.
has anyone seen them with the feelers and op shop? i haven't heard much about how the tour is going...
i guess i can report back after tomorrow night... WOOHOO!!
i watched that debate on tv. the people who wanted the drinking age raised were dicks. they did not listen to the younger people and they made sweeping generalisations, most of which were completely untrue. but the best part of the entire debate was when one of the youth mps completely bummed out the actual mps, the police and well... basically everyone. everyone was going on about "raising the drinking age", but she made the point that we would be raising the legal age to purchase alcohol. anyone can actually drink it (under supervision), it is the buying of alcohol that is restricted. it cracked me up. i laughed. and laughed some more.
and go nandor.
I shall chuck in my opinion. sorry if it's lame and makes this whole thread sound like shit.
i am 16. it's 16 months till i turn 18. oh dear. i live in feilding. the hole of the world. over in palmy there is a great wee place called the stomach. they have gigs there most weekends. yippee!!! it's all ages and only costs $5. most of the time it's just the high school bands playing. every so often there's a band from wellington there. which is cool. but, the stomach doesn't attract any of the 'bigger' bands. its too small. the mint chicks played there in july - much to my disappointment i had been sick that week, so i couldn't go. so, its all yeehaa that we actually have an all ages venue, but poopoo we don't get many other bands apart from cathedra, maryland, riot girl etc etc.
my friend is from germany. she's from berlin. lucky thing. she goes out to gigs and stuff most weekends. she's just turned 17. they can go to pubs to see bands play. those that are underage get a little wrist band thing (i assume its one of those ones that you can't easily rip off), so they can't get drinks at the bar. a good idea? yes, possibly. i would be able to go to gigs. with my friends who turn 18 next year. instead of sitting outside.
i'd like to think that i'm one of the more sensible underagers. not one of those stupid skanks that prance around in short skirts and little tops that try to fuck the band members. somehow, they'd need some policy to keep those people out.
but seriously, they need to do something. all i want to do is see some decent live music sometime!! not all that bullshit thats on C4 select. the 4pm version...
and yes, it has been announced people, Evermore are playing at big day out 05.
auckland and east coast australia shows only.
if anyone actually reads this, i thought i'd let ya know.
hmm...
as far as i know, that is an australasian chart... so techinically they would count because they are an australasian band. then, one would have thought, if it was a good australasian chart, they would count sales from all of australasia, if they were gonna be completely correct. because its kind of a contradiction if they don't.
as far as citizenship goes, yes, Jon will have dual Aus/NZ citizenship, but for the others it will probably take a little while longer for them to get theirs. it is good to emphasise the point of DUAL citizenship, just so the australian media don't suddenly start yelling "hahahaha, this is the 'new' (yeah, where have you been...) australian band Evermore". the day that happens is the day i get them back on a plane here. i will personally pay.
hopefully, the summer tour will help raise Evermore's profile over here. they really need some promotion, considering we have pretty much been ignored for the last 8 months.
hey. i know this town sucks, but at least its not as bad as............ TAIHAPE.
they'd get way more than a crowd of 15, seriously. all it'd need is a bit of promotion at school and they'd easily have quite a decent crowd. ok, so i'd pay my friends to go, and my sister's friends to go. BUT PEOPLE DO KNOW WHO THEY ARE HERE. perhaps they should stop thinking that feilding is really narrow minded and doesn't love them. yeah feilding is narrow minded, but come on, listen to the people of feilding. they want you.

nah, i'm not australian. i live in little old nz. i just vote for evermore on the jjj net 50, much fun it is.
i think i voted for evermore about 50 times one week on that. what betchadupa needs is a dedicated street team. i think it was all the evermore street teamers voting about 100 times that got them number 1 2 weeks in a row....
oh man, and Evermore were playing there today. i'm off to australia now. i've had it. enough is enough.
it was facial hair. it was bad. i was not happy. but i am happy now if he's decided that its not cool. i will be even happier when his hair grows back some more. *sigh*
i got the fright of my life when i saw the front cover of the time out section of the nz herald weekend thing and saw that chris had this horrible looking mark on his upper lip and chin.... seriously, that was so not cool.
i love the long hair.
personally, unfortuantely, i am yet to see them live, but from what i've heard they're pretty good.
the one time they played in feilding last year before they headed off to the US of A, i wasn't cool enough to get invited. nevermind. i didn't know about them then... that came a couple of months later....
there was this dude at the market in noumea (in new caledonia for those who are geographically challenged) who sold jewellery who looked so much like chris garland it just wasn't funny. so he was suitably nicknamed "the guy at the market who looks like chris garland".
soooo, chris with short hair or long hair?? i like long haired chris personally....
I've just finished a massive story for Tearaway on all-age gigs and stuff and in the process talked to Steve from Zebedees in Chch. He seems pretty enthusiastic about getting new bands on board and playing at Zebedees. I don't know what the reputation of the place is like, but just an idea...
