Hi, I'm interested in starting up a band. At the moment I'm listening to Arcade Fire, Death Cab For Cutie, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Grandaddy and the new Kings of Leon among other stuff. I play both guitar and bass and don't mind which one I end up playing. Mostly I need keen people...I've played in bands before but experience isn't really an issue as long as you can pick up your instrument (or hit it) and make a neat noise with it.
Cool.
Haha...why do people trying to start all girl bands get the same lameass comments from guys?
Some of you people really need to get out more...
drinking at high altitude will mess you up quick - especially if you've been excercising. Probably wasn't a spiking...
Is your DVD player a NZ zoned one? If it is, I'm pretty sure they should have given you your money back, unless the sales assistant told you it was a weird zone etc. Not sure if there are any lawyers on here but in that situation you'd be covered by the consumer guarantees act I reckon...
Starting new band, got a drummer sorted and after a bass player. Influences include Sonic Youth, Mars Volta, Interpol, Bailterspace etc. Don't really need gigging experience or anything...
There's not a lot I've heard that sounds like any of the bands you've listed in Auckland! My mate was telling me about an indie-sounding band he played with in Auckland - they were called Lunar-(something), it might have been lunarveda. I'm not even how they spelt luna. Maybe someone else can help me on this one. Anyway - he said they were pretty good, though more in a pavement style than anything else. I definitely haven't heard anything sounding like the Postal Service here - though I would be interested if someone knows of anything that does...
Hi, I'm after a bassist and drummer to form a new band with a view to gigging eventually. Influences include Sonic Youth, Interpol, Mars Volta etc. Even if you're just starting out, as long as you're into similar stuff, feel free to reply.

haha...I was just about to post the same thing. Someone expecting money in return for anything associated with the feelers? Almost as classic as that Mike King message!
Not really sure the indie scene here is as big as the one in the US. Try the gig guide at www.95bfm.co.nz to get an idea of what's on in Auckland - you can often listen to songs by a lot of bands if you hunt around a bit. What bands are you into?
Dude - if you're in Auckland check out Birkenhead Cash Converters. Last time I was in there (2 days ago) they had a Marshall VS30R for $225 I think. Didn't try it out though but give them a call.
Dunno - Jaquie and Hugh were among the few music tv presenters since the decline of Max TV that seemed to actually know anything about music more than the cue cards they were reading off. Actually that Francesca Rudkin was alright too. But come on...Jane Yee? Erika Takacs? The entire staff of Juice TV? I guess that's the difference between TV and radio though. Radio you actually need to know your shit...TV you just gotta look good...
Though I'm happy to see Jaqui Brown back on the tv...she's better than both of the new Space presenters, even if there powers were to combine Captain Planet styles...
Anyone else think the whole open audition thing was just a big publicity stunt? Most of those selected to present are already well established in the music industry... Kudos to the marketing team.
What? The same Jane Y who asked Moby about his Praise You video clip at a press conference...yep - she sure has got all the musical knowledge required to be a presenter on a commercial music channel...
Come on - how long have the new presenters been on space now? You'd expect them to be a lot better by now, it's not as though it's shortland st or anything where crap on screen presence is actually tolerated...
It was in the paper this morning. I can think of few lamer things to do with that much effort. Someone needs to slap the organiser upside the head with a healthy dose of imagination.
Which is why so many current hip hop and r'n'b tracks sample whitey rock and pop songs :). Get down off your high horse Lena so I can slap you silly - ain't really that much difference between them black folk and them white folk 'cept the colour of their skin...anyone who thinks differently is just keeping the same old cycle going on down that same old road.
Jeepers, what a bunch of forum geek lame-o's! Give the little fella a break. Even if he's geographically challenged good on him for taking the step towards forming his own band, no matter how questionable his musical taste might be. Are your lives really so boring outside the realm of the plastic box sitting on the desk in front of you that you feel such a need to take the piss for a serious request?
I know the Donna's are definitely the hotter of the two :). Whether that makes them better or not is another question entirely...
Whoops - haven't checked back in a while. Got a bassist, another guitarist, myself (guitar) and a drummer at the moment - would be keen on getting anyone interested in singing or even another guitarist/singer along...we've taken a bit of a rockier tangent from my original listed influences but with the right numbers I'm sure we can take back the hill. Or something. Let me know if you're interested at the above address. Actually if anyone plays any other instruments let me know too - I'm sure we can fit you in somehow!
We're from all over at the moment - we had a few practises already but will next be looking to practise around Ellerslie/Mt Wellington as that is central to everyone so far...
