Yeap, we're still working on it. Actually, since it's not winter any more we'll be getting another wardrobe. It looks really cool. See you in the summer!

VOCALIST WITH WOW FACTOR NEEDED

Hey there lads and lassies.

Beautiful Collision are seeking a motivated and committed vocalist/song writer/front man or girl with that WOW factor.

We're an originals band made up of two guitarists (I'm one of them) and a drummer and hoping to have a bass player on board very soon. We lost our vocalist yesterday - he decided to pull out due to personal reasons, nothing to do with the band or the music. A real shame as it was all coming together really well with some great songs in the making.

Onwards and upwards! The show must go on! ... and all the other cliches. So ... now we need you ... that special someone with passion, the x-factor, the voice... the looks, the recording contract, the cheque book, the food, the beer... have I missed anything?! haha only joking.

Ok, on a more serious note... that someone will have it all happening... gifted with great vocal range, character in their voice, personality and charisma, creativity... someone that can bring the songs to life whether it be in the studio or on stage. You'll be a gifted song writer, willing and open to collaborating and forming a writing partnership with another song writer (me) and open to creative input and contribution from the other band members. This is a collective - we all have something to bring to the songs and the music.

We're a cool, fun, easy to get a long with bunch of guys. We're passionate about our music, driven, with ambition and a belief that we will have an impact on the mainstream market not only here in NZ but overseas also. You'll too will be a cool, easy to get a long with guy or girl, someone with drive, passion, ambition and a belief that you can and will make it. An ego and/or arrogance will not be part of your make-up.

The genre is pop/rock with a groove but, we're not afraid to go where the song needs to go - it's all about creativity and serving the song.

Age is not a biggie... we're a mixed bunch. Ideally you might be in your 20s or early 30s but we want the right person so age should not get in the way.

Influences include the following but we're not out to sound like these guys... MUSE, Stereophonics, U2, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, RHCP, Third Day, Switchfoot ... the list goes on and on.

Beautiful Collision is the name of the band - I will share more about the name with the right person.

Our goal is to get into the studio asap to record a 4 or 5 track demo/EP and we'll then be targeting the mainstream market here in NZ and overseas. We have contacts for gigs and we'll be looking to take the songs to a live audience asap. We already have a batch of songs ready to be worked on with the new vocalist and, another batch of song ideas in the cupboard waiting.

There are Christians in the band (including myself). You don't have to be a Christian to be in the band but you will need to respect that christian faith will be reflected in some of the songs. We will of course respect who you are - there will be no forcing views or beliefs on anyone. Note, this is NOT a Christian band - we'll be going out to the secular/mainstream market. The songs will be positive, meaningful and, hopefully people will be effected in some way by our songs.

Ok, so if this is pushing your buttons and you think you might want to be a part of Beautiful Collision, I'd love to hear from you. Either email me at the.artset@gmail.com telling me what you're about and what music you're into or txt/ call me on 027 825 7805.

Best.

Boycott battle of the bands

Hows this one, we entered the bob and turned up to the bar a couple of hours early for dinner with about ten of our mates. When Mr Featherstone turned up and started charging at the door, he saw our band and our friends where already inside waiting for the comp to start. He then proceeded to come up to us and tell us all our friends had to pay him if they were there to see the bands. When we refused to tell our friends to go to him at the door and pay he came walking around demanding the door price form them, at which point they all paid him. Its was a truly disgusting and embarrassing experience. Then while we played, he and one of the other judges stood there snaring at us, by the end of our set I was really pissed off.

NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Let me just respond to some of your ill reputed comments......

Yep, we don't need dumb asses who forget their leads while we're trying to be serious on stage....... If you don't understand that, then you sholdn't be playing live for money!

Eh What?!

Come on it's not like you're ever drunk on stage. Vergining on comatose maybe..
reply Submitted by tclak on Thu, 2004-08-05 00:44. Whatever. The more I've had to drink, the better I play. It's a proven fact.
reply Submitted by simon_ishtar on Mon, 2004-08-09 15:25. ok I'll cut them some slack for having a cool limericks page

How bout trying just once to play without being wasted and seeing what comes out? I bet you're more impressed with your sobriety then you are your drunkeness. Let me know once you've tried it..... Would be interested in your true thoughts after trying both.

Thanks for the compliment, as musicians I think we're all looking for some way to get some exposure, even if it is some cheesy line to get some attention.

They wouldn't like me. I'm a goddamn no-good drunk.

I Might have liked you, yourself, but I don't particularily like the GD word at all.... Kinda pointless... would be like knowing your mothers name is alice and saying to you out of total disrespect, "They woldn't like me, I'm an Alice fucking messed up cunt faced drunk!" Not nice eh! And just a bit disrespectful of other peoples values.......

So my being a lover of a God you don't want to belive in, makes me a Chrisitian-assed loser... Wow....! I can't wait for you to wise up and see the light..... And BTW the rest of the band... don't believe the way I do.... So if you'd like to chastise the Christian.. make it all against me.. I can handle your torment....... you don't scare me at all!

reply Submitted by simon_ishtar on Sun, 2004-08-08 23:49. From what has come back down the grapevine to me I'm not so certain they are that christian Lena though I agree they certainly look it. Just for the record I personally was trying to offer them advice. Maybe I'm wrong bout this but everything about them yells covers band. The last thing I want to do is attack someone for being too old, in the wrong scene etc... At some point we're all going to be 40ish or dead and why shouldn't a basnd of christianised looking middle aged people have the same rights to gig as twenty somethings, 30 somethings... whatever. Irrespective of what anyone has said keep on playing LFO.

Didn't your momma teash you not to judge a book by it's cover???? Looks can be deceiving especially when you have no idea who you are looking at and it's across the world wide web...... And please do tell me what advice you were offering? Do you have some special secret none of the rest of us have about how to make it in this industry? Are you now the Kid Rock of New Zealand and I somehow missed hearing about it? It's good that you wouldn't attack people for being too old... Old is in the eye of the beholding old person.. The rolling Stones are still around and I'd think are olde than all of us, but they still pull a crowd who pays in excess of 160 a ticket to see them in NZ, so age has nothing to do with talent... And I thank you for telling us to keep o playing.. We are and we are now ELEPHO. Same pronounciation, different spelling... Better band all around....Google us.

However Connery, if you read this I have heard through the grapevine, from three different sources, that you were drunk as a lord at both your five for five and at the WBOB which, if true, makes your ad hypocritical.

Well see you heard from your three sources WRONG.. We didn't get 5 for 5.. we got 2 for 1, and I was sober as could be. The line up for the band you were speaking of only had one regular drinker in it... and it wasn't me.... I did have two beers prioir to getting on stage but at 80kgs that was hardly enough to make me wasted.....

I have also heard rumours that you came here cause you originally thought NZ would be a backwater with no good local bands thus easeir to break into the market. Personally I find that presupposition offensive as hell if true.

I came to NZ because I married a man from here and I hated the USA. Long story and none of anyone business why I felt that way... still the truth....

If not please disregard.

I have!

The third thing I've heard is that you were bagging Andrew Featherstone's five for fives. Some bands love and some bands hate them but they do serve a purpose, allowing bands to gig, getting exposure and experience. They have been gigs for many now well known local bands, that I would dare say they were glad to have at the time. If you think you can do better then step up to bat and organize your own. My prediction is that you will run into the same difficulties that Andrew, Lou and the intergalactic team run into (public apathy towards live gigs and nights out at the local in general, a lot of time taken up in organizing publicity, ensuring someone is going to be on the door, running the PA, making sure the bar is still happy, running around after reprobate musos who haven't yet got back to you, contracts, tickets, the occasional sudden cancellation etc) and that you are less equipped to deal with above problems.
reply Submitted by lena o on Mon, 2004-08-09 00:23. yeh- oz is just crawling with brilliant bands ¿huh?- like- er- um- inxs- &- er--- the angels
reply Submitted by davewc on Mon, 2004-08-09 05:17. no christian band would have this link two clicks from their website

I don't like Featherstone. I don't like his business sense, I don't like his choice of judges telling people the reason they didn't make the next round was because they wore the wrong clothes when that had nothing to do with hwat they were judging on and I find his competitions poorly trun, and I've taken your advice and run my own business for years now. My contests are run on TALENT not anything else and I have earned respect throughtout the industry with my partner in music buesiness. Feathrstone had/has his own agenda and it doesn't match what he portrays as his rules for the contests and he's lost my respect both as a business person and a musician for it.

I wouldn't disagree with you there...

reply Submitted by simon_ishtar on Mon, 2004-08-09 23:30. kinda half serious half joking I guess. Just bands that come to mind when I think oz rock/ pop rock that doesn't make me wanna hurl. AC/DC are gods though
reply Submitted by simon_ishtar on Thu, 2004-08-05 17:45. It would be easy to add something nasty but I think I'll try for something constructive. LFO, is this the same LFO who were playing at the WBOB a few weeks back? The same band who expects to make money from playing originals (something many high profile originals bands in NZ can't do- at least not enough to stop working day jobs) yet have a set list mostly of covers?
I really don't mean to be nasty but maybe you should look at packaging yourselves as a covers band. At the moment your ad conveys an identity crisis that would make you very hard to market and an unmarketable band is going to find it hard getting good people. also why put things in the ad about booze and drugs? You can work that out at the audition while not putting peoples backs up.Personally I would rather have in an ad "no assholes required" if I was looking to be a moral yardstick for other bands to be measured against.
Just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

So you'd rather waste 4 peoples time and money renting out a studio to find out the guy or gal who shows up is a waste case and doesn;t gel with you? Really. Maybe you're rich, but we're mere musicians who can barely afford to rehearse.....

reply Submitted by ConneryFaire on Mon, 2004-08-09 23:49. The ad was placed with the intent to gain a good guitariist for our band. I am however interested, since I know virtually no one in New Zealand, and rarely tell anyone but my family how I really feel, how you all "Think" you know so much about me and what I think about whom. And no this band is not a Christian band. I AM THE CHRISTIAN! which should have no bearing on my musical talent or abilities.
reply Submitted by Madeleine on Tue, 2004-08-10 00:19. dunno, no personal calls except the photos make you look like christians. They do too. ishtar's said he's only speaking hearsay; pretty constructive too. So...is he right or does he just "Think" he is? This is your chance to set the record straight.

Here's your record. I AM A CHRISTIAN... Either deal with it or get over it but it won't go away t make you happy!

reply Submitted by Hun on Tue, 2004-08-10 01:56. don't take it personally connery - you've gotta keep in mind that 90% of us on this forum are sad arse elitists who genuinely believe we are gods gift to new zealand music (well, all music actually). We see this forum as the online venue for our enlightening comments, & love to pour scorn & ridicule on those lesser than us.

Who made you a Gd who gets to choose what;s lower than you? You? PUUULEASE!

So, unless you look like the mint chicks, sound like shihad (killjoy era no less), have the credibility of shayne carter, and quote early flying nun as a major influence... you're probably not gonna find the love, just a bit of piss taking at your slightly naff photo.

And I guess you're a mint chicked Shihadden. Shayne Carter yourselves then? And you're making how much in the industry? Pennies... they don't even have those in NZ anymore....

reply Submitted by ConneryFaire on Tue, 2004-08-10 02:56. Hi guys - Gals and fellow winos !
This is Mark from Last Flight Out. Just thought I'd clear up a couple of things here. Firstly, nope, we aren't a christian band - we perform both originals and covers although my laptop bit the dust and I haven't been able to update the website lately. As for Connery Faire being blind drunk on our last to gigs, nope that's not true either. Anyway, nice to meet you all.....I don't normally get on these chat boards but thought I'd clear up a few points so we can all be nice and...well at least polite..waddaya reckon
reply Submitted by simon_ishtar on Wed, 2004-08-11 15:39. Hey Mark. For my part I'm willing to step out of this. No-one wants bad feeling when, as you can now see, it is a very small community out there where news does spread very fast. However it is for this reason that I thought I'd put this final post in on this topic. After my first post to your ad, in which I was in my own pompous and arrogant way offering your band some advice I had two txt messages and a phone call from friends who had seen the posting and had very similar stories to tell. One person in particular, who has my deepest respect and I've known virtually all my adult life, had a lot more to say about Connie but I'm not opening that little pandora's box. I'm not going to rebutt your claims but I'm also concerned that my silence could be seen as a sign that I had made up the previous claim. I'm going to agree to disagree with you and, for my part, leave it there. Good luck in your search for a guitarist.

Biography of Connery Faire
The name Connery Faire was created in late 1997, and is a derivative of the lead vocalist Conni Whitley's real name, thus meaning Conni Whitley is Connery Faire.
Connery Faire's band currently consist of Vocalist, Music Arranger, & Lyricist, Conni Whitley, Drums, Billy Frazier and Bass, Drums, Lead Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Vocals, Keyboard, and Producer David Mikeal.
Connery Faire's Minor Goal: To be signed by a Major Label, and begin touring.
Connery Faire's Major Goal: To make enough money in the industry so that she may serve God, and our fellow human race by creating homeless shelters, battered women's shelters, and society re-entry homes for people released from prison.
Conni Whitley has worked hard for her career in music. She was a first chair flautist in Jr. High School. At Age sixteen, she became serious about being a vocalist and began private lessons to learn more about how to let her feelings show while using her voice. She eventually stopped the lessons when she felt it was altering what she wanted to represent herself as, as a vocalist. She began writing her own lyrics when she was eighteen. Her intentions were to become a rock and roll star, and to save the world in the process. It was not until 1996 that a break came for her. She became a Karaoke Hostess, and then went on to form her own business as a Karaoke Hostess called Connery Faire Karaoke. In 1999, she gave up her business to begin working full time on her own recording project.
Conni gained a closer relationship with God. She felt the need to musically spread the message of his love and word. Her approach is unique in its absence of blatant Christian proselytizing. Conni's approach utilizes the sharing of common life problems, feelings, and emotions. Her arrangements present the opportunity to just enjoy the music, or take it a step further by trying what works for her.
Conni Whitley currently performs her new songs every Sunday morning for her church congregation at Reconciliation Christian Center, who supports her professional goals as a Christian singer and songwriter. Her Reverend, Reginald Edwards is especially helpful, not only as a spiritual advisor but also additionally in providing pragmatic assistance in launching her professional career in the local media.
Conni Whitley, serves not only as a performer for her church, but also as the Music Director, and Office Secretary.
Connery Faire is currently being played in the Independent Glory section at discjockey.com, on WJSE The Rock Alternative 102.7's morning show in New Jersey, and on the Praise The Power show on La Mega 88.7 in Orlando. (A bi-lingual radio station)

A review of Connery Faire's music can be read at: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Auditorium/9022/connery.htm

So by being associated with me it makes the whole band christians.. I sure which that were true.. I'd have a hell of alot less work to do tryingt o change them...... He who feels he is not a sinner please throw the first stone!

The Libery Stage/Reverb Room

I was the bar manager of the Reverb Room. I started 2 weeks before my 18th birthday (drinking age was 20) and on the first night went through the safety glass door in a pub fight. The bar was closed down by the cops and a bent pub manager after some arsehole skin head attacked a band in the street below as they were packing up. My favorite band was Blam Blam Blam (Tim was a great guy) and I remember the bar being so packed one weeend when Lip Service played that we were serving beer by the crate. I appologise to all the customers who were upset when I put the prices up during a nationwide 'price freeze' but I decided to make everything cost $1.00, the bar staff found it easier to count change that way!
I used to wonder what people got up too in the darkness between the bar and the stage, the cleaners were always complaining about all the used condoms... where Kiwi girls in the 80's that easy?

I need band members

Hey Im a singer songwriter looking to start a band with serious and dedicated members around the age of 16-19. My influences are the Kooks, The arctic monkeys, my chemical romance, paramore, Eric Clapton?, Escape the Fate, Guns n roses, katy perry, def leopard, Micheal Jackson.......etc. so pretty broad. But those are not the artists I would like to mimic. I just want to create a sound that just is what it is with open minded people. so yeahp hit me up on my mob on 0211168914 or email me on karcysky@hotmail.com. I live in Aucks btw, so.............yeah. cheers.

Auckland

Where are all the bass players in Auckland?!

Hey. Desperately seeking a creative bass player. What rock are you hiding under?! I see so many bands looking but hardly ever see bass players looking. Ok, so Beautiful Collision are an orginals band playing edgy pop/rock although we'll go where the song needs to go. We are a vocalist, 2 guitarists and a drummer and need the a cool bassist to complete the line-up. Influences include Muse, Stereophonics, U2, Pearl Jam, Third Day, RHCP, Foo Fighters... the list goes on. This will be an opportunity for a tight, grooving bass player (male or female) to get involved with a cool bunch of guys in a band that's going places. Our songs are positive and meaningful and a few of the guys (including me) are Christians. You don't need to be a Christian to be in the band but you'll need to respect that our faith will be reflected in some songs. We will of course respect who you are :) Note, this is not a Christian band, we'll be targeting the mainstream market. You'll also have the chance to get involved in the song writing process and shaping the songs. We'll be hitting the studio end of Feb and plan to gig from March onwards. We'll be targeting the NZ mainstream market and radio airplay and also overseas. We are passionate and serious about our music but we also keep it real and fun. We believe we will make it big. You'll need to be easy to get along with (we are) experienced, and committed with good gear.
If this is pushing your buttons we would love to hear from you. Either reply to this post or email the.artset@gmail.com or txt/call me on 027-825-7805.

Miscreant Recordings

Hi,

My name is David Edtmaier and i own & operate a home/project recording studio in Auckland which started operating full time around september 2008. It's located in a country style home on a 12 acre block with a serene view over the estuary, great spot to get away from it all and record your tracks without even being out of auckland. My aim is to get more well recorded music out there without the big studio rates. I've got a good ear, with a number of my productions/recordings achieving radio airplay, including commercial stations like the rock and ZM, and can help your band get the results you're after.

All rates include unlimited premixes/changes to the mix (no hourly rates that you might get stung with elsewhere) until the results are achieved and start at around $400 for a broadcast quality radio single (includes a week of my time). Prices vary depending on the job.

Also do killer rates on albums & EP's and have access to some of Auckland's top notch studios for lower than usual rates should you want the professional big studio edge. (email me for more info)

contact: dave@miscreantrecordings.com for enquiries/quotes... and hear some of my work with various bands at these sites: www.reverbnation.com/miscreantrecordings or www.myspace.com/miscreantrecordings ..

cheers
