We're kicking off proceedings this Sat 14 Aug at the Cross bar in wgtn. Doors open @ 9.30 - $5. Vocoder & Cop Car are also playing. Stingfish onstage at 10pm.
Stingfish attracted a near capacity audience at The Cross on Saturday night for their debut rock performance. They played 9 original rock songs with variety and energy and were well recieved by the crowd. Unfortunately supporting band Cop Car couldn't contribute as their drummer fell ill. Vocoder took the stage and finished off a great night.
Stingfish's next gig is at the Vic Uni bar 'Eastside' on Thursday 23rd September.
We have just completed a mini-tour venturing out of the capital with punk-rockers Cop-Car. It was cool.
we had our first gig in wellington at bar Bodega with Picture Imp and then got up early the next morning to drive all the way to Auckland. It took us 11 hours to get there, with plenty of stops and abusing people with a megaphone - especially useful on the Auckland motorway. The Kings Arms was a great venue with awesome sound and a huge stage. Voom played first and although the turn-out was lack-lustre we still had heaps of fun. The Ambassador was a good time too and was almost full, a much smaller venue with trippy wall coverings and bar staff who would come up and dance. Local bands were Rimu and Jackpoint - both great bands.
Then we headed back south on an entertaining drive where everyone was afraid to nod off, and played at The Stomach all ages venue in Palmy. That was an excellent night, thanks to the local bands Impish and Cord Willis for attracting heaps of people. The sound was good there too and was great to play in front of an enthusiatic crowd, which some of us ended up jumping into and playing real rock n roll legend style.
oh man!!! why oh why did i take that goddamn babysitting job? how did cord willis go? the guitarist is one of my good friends and i was desperate to come and see you guys + my buddy micheal of course
gah my life is devoid of light

Down On The Street EP Review
by REAL GROOVE Mag August '05
"Welcome to another month in Noisyland, if the cold and grim (and perhaps even evil) winter is getting the country down it's not immediately apparent in the optimistic and zealous debut EP by Wellingtonians Stingfish. Stingfish's self-released Down On The Street five-tracker contains the sort of rock 'n' roll that makes you want to get up and off your lazy ass for fear of letting life pass by for even a second. They have a sound that finds its feet firmly in the kiwi rock bracket, think Weta and the more direct moments of Cassette even - never a bad thing, keeping it simple and such."
Stingfish head to Radio Active this Friday 16/9 for an interview with DJ's Jim & Bryce on the Drive Show @ 6pm. Radio Active streams live via their site below.
The Package - Down on the Street CD Review - 29 Sept 05
"Stingfish formed in 2004 after rising from the ashes of various Wellington bands and Down on the Street is the band’s debut EP. Production is crisp, thanks of course to Mike Gibson at Inca; the man behind so many great kiwi recordings.
Opening track ‘One Eyed’, suggests a softer pop rock focus; it is a good song, but it intentionally misleads the listener, allowing Stingfish to build intensity across the five tracks, with ‘Opinionated’ and ‘Hope sounding like a different band altogether. But in a good way. In fact, ‘Opinionated’ buzzes along in a manner reminiscent of the no-frills post-punk of vintage Husker Du or Guided by Voices. And ‘Desire’ adds an element of white-boy funk; Steve Jefferies (bass) and Phil Rennie (Drums) lock in nicely together, allowing Shaun Jones and Matt Beilensohn to weave their guitars in and around the rhythm.
Down on the Street is an assured EP from a polished act; here’s hoping – with more gigs under their belt – these lads can hold it together to create a long-player. They have the chops (in both the playing and songwriting departments) and this is certainly a step in the right direction."
