I did actually. I built my own car from bits'n'pieces I found at the nearby landfill. The body is (mostly) parts of various whitewear appliances, and the engine is a revolutionary new design that I'm currently trying to patent, so won't go into too much detail about, needless to say it's amazing how much horsepower you can get out of discarded vacuum cleaners...

It took me a while to get the vulcanisation process right so I could produce my own tyres. I feel I let myself down a bit with the lights, as I couldn't quite get a homemade set to produce enough lux, so I had to kowtow to the motor-industry there and actually buy a decent set.

And it all runs on manure produced by my herd of goats and sheep.

Nah, Noizy's right. The most likely reason you suggested phpBB isn't because of any favourable absolute design attributes, but because that's what you're used to using. When you've been using a particular format for a while, others will always look or feel wrong, or difficult to use, etc. Obviously adhering to a standard, be it implicit or explicit has some benefits, but it is still a matter of conformity over individuality.

Yeah bays, I get your point, but I resent your comment that phpbb is "superior". I really like the format of these forums; I prefer them in fact. Like I said it's more to do with what you're used to than any genuine usability issues. The whole of IT is like that. People don't like changing. You start using a different word processor or OS and for the first few months it's just arse.

The reason phpbb is so rampant isn't necessarily because of its "superior" usability, but because it's a free, prepackaged system. You don't need to do any work or pay any money.
