Yep, a party without my parents. The blurb on the invitation reads:
Remember back when you were in high school, and your parents told you that they were going away for the weekend?

Your first thought was probably "PARTY!" and you'd call up your best friend straight away to let them know. Then the two of you would sit down and try to plan the whole thing out, and you'd draw up images in your head of all the good times you were going to have. You'd be hoping that everyone would turn up, and hoping that maybe just maybe your party would be the hit of the year. Part of you was probably even hoping that you'd have a hundred gatecrashers and that the police would turn up and that people would start throwing bottles, because hey, that'd make you SUCH a legend. And then there was that other part of you - a little lower down on your body perhaps - hoping that maybe you'd get a pash and a bit of a grope in a corner somewhere with someone from another school. And maybe the coolest person in school would drink too much and throw up and you'd have to help them, so you'd get a little bit of social leverage, and everyone would listen to the cool mix tapes you'd put together for the party and go "wow, what cool taste you have" and then even the Alternative Kids would like you. Oh yeah, your party was going to be perfect - just as long as you could get someone to buy the alcohol for you, in case the liquor store didn't buy your "oh, I must have left my ID at home" story.

Of course, there was that part of you that was terrified that maybe no one would show up. You'd be sitting around with your mix tapes and your kristov and your long suffering best friend, and that would be all. Even more terrifying was the prospect that no one would show up EXCEPT a couple of people who are a few rungs up the social ladder from you, who'd then know exactly what a social reject you were. Oh the pain! And the anticipation! And the drunkeness!

Let's do it all again!

Wow, you're nice. I've got them sleeping on couch cushions on the floor and my fold out couch which is apparently really really uncomfortable, but it does look kinda nice... and I'll be sleeping in my oh so comfortable queen size bed.

Thank you, I did / am, this year I am trying to do my birthday velocity styles, with a little something happening each day... there is somehing about tuesdays that just doen't seem to fit with celebration.
so Tuesday was quite low key just me and the kidlets and cake. Wednesday was a birthday tea with some fine 20 somethings from the North Island, the fact that only I knew it was a birthday tea didn't detract from my enjoyment, then it was off to see what these chaps do best, and have a wee dance hidding in the shadows so nobody but me knew that I was.. what is that saying about dance like no-one can see you.....
I still have to go paselode tonight, after choosing my gifts so they can be wrapped in time for my birthday dinner with my father on sunday, there is something about my dad's roasts that underline every real celebration in my life.

thanks to one and all for the wishes, life is good, and now 4 years in i can't say that life begins at 40 but it sure doesn't get horrible.
