Is there anyway that when we type a comment we can coreect it without going back and reposting the thing with the correct spelling? Most of us realise weve made a spelling error and we are made to repost the same thing with the corrected spelling. What im asking is that a Modify Button be added to the forums so when we realise weve made an error we can correct it without having to repost.

As much as I hate my spelling mistakes being seen by all and sundry, it means that people can't go back and change what they've said if someone disagrees or proves their statement wrong.
Is it possible to limit 'edit time' so that people have enough time to read over their post and correct 'spelling mistakes' and then the post is locked/unchangable like they are now? (If it matters that much to people shouldn't they be reading the post before they submit it?)

Yeah, I agree with Dr G. Maybe a second stage where it previews the message and allows you to edit there would encourage you to read it properly before submitting. cf. the comments on imdb.com

haha, so potential ownings mean quite a lot to you dr g? I don't see it as a problem really. You can easily call someone out iof they blatantly change their post.

Hmm, i wonder what type of scoundrel would do that?
I second the 'preview' option, but I'm lazy so it would be choice if we had the option of posting or previewing.

wouldn't worry too much. all those sort of details will be handled.
I just didn't want to go into all the grubby details at this stage - rather get it done and running. Forums have become very standardised since we built this from scratch many years ago.
good point on the phone numbers though jet. will be adding that into the mix i hope.

The one thing that will be going (rather unfortunately) is the 'reply to post' sub-threading.
Its a shame as this was one of our little innovations, but I don't think we'll be acrrying it through for a number of technical reasons.
I felt this needed to be declared eventually - especially with all the 'reply to post' button instructions the old skool nzmers are always instructing newbies on.

Argh, things are going to get even messier and more complicated then - unless everyone starts staying on the one topic, which seems a little unlikely.

That would be a real shame. I guess there are probably really good technical reasons for doing away with this but the ability to reply to a particular post within a topic is a real boon. Particularly in a very active topic where there might be a number of ideas spinning off from the original post. This is a real feature of the site if you ask me. For me it helps to make the site more interactive for want of a better term.

bugger. i guess we could start referring to dates/times to help backtrack conversations ... in the end losing this might end up creating a lot more smaller stand-alone topics ... which alarms me - i have a hard time keeping up with every thread i'm interested in already.

Yeah that is a shame. I actually really like the layout of the forums right now ... totally different from anythign else I've ever come across anywhere on the net. But progress is never made when people sit back admiring what they've achieved in the past, right?
