I played about and got a text file of over a hundred phone numbers from this site within quarter of an hour... Further playing suggests I could grab thousands of email addresses. Main areas does seem to be the classifieds.
This might be a bit weird, but does this site make any kind of warnings about leaving your contact details on here when people sign up?
Specifically that they are not going to be on the site short term, even if you can't see the forum you posted in at the top of the list anymore.
I can't remember any such disclaimers and sometimes I reckon it would be a good idea, particularly for classifieds, where people may think what they write will only be around for a short while.
Sure people should take responsibility for their what they type, but particularly those who aren't particularly net savvy or are practically kids still may need it made explicit that anything you post here can be found for years.
I have no idea whether this is something that other forums worry about, or even something other forum users worry about for that matter! I'd be keen to hear other people's thoughts.

I have only added my email to my profile in the last couple of weeks, and altured it again today, because I had noticed that the more net nerdy members havewritten theirs in a format that was not name@hotmail.com.......... I assumed the idea was so it was harder for sneeks / spam gathers to recognise it as an email address.
ages ago megaccino, posted a topic about how easily it was to get google results on some users names, and I have alway been a bit careful since........... thank god that Aka is such a common word.
but way back when I set up my 1st internet account, I stupidly used my name in the addy, it took me about 3 days on the world wide web to see how bloody dumb this was, as I am the only person in NZ with my name......... drop my email address in the white pages search engine and you will instantly have not only my phone number but my home address........... lessons for new players.

If you google me, you get my contact details at my last three or four jobs before you come to my personal page, which makes me sad.

I think with the new forums we'll be looking to ban email addresses being used in a way that spambots can recognise. It may be as simple as forcing @ to be replaced by [at]

Nice one.
Have you seen stuff like what I linked to below? Would be painful to implement that but would be a great way to stop bots.
I personally think the phone numbers thing is more scary and is not something that could be automatically detected and blocked. That's why I was thinking more about warnings.
I wonder if entity encoding works on here? This should appear as my email address if it does:
(censored)
Which is on the web already, I should add. :)
