Argh, lifestylers!! With their trendy houses & BMWs & ponds with fountains & white ducks. My favourite lifestyle block, south of Christchurch is the one that had a wall made out of haybales. It was cool watching the cows in the paddock next door eat away at it. & to see it deteriorate over time, the bales falling over... I guess they gained some common sense, cos they eventually built some proper fences.
One of my lecturers obviously has a lifestyle block too, she was telling us how the neighbour wanted to build a gravel access road near her paved bbq outside area, she didn't want any stock trucks going past or have any dust blown onto her house. With her knowledge of the RMA she was able to prevent it.
this is often a deliberate ploy -- a temporary fence while either your trees grow, or you finish building the house before you make the fence, with the added bonus of feeding animals or then getting to use the hay as compost ground cover round the garden...
However, it does amaze me when I hear of people complaining about the farming activities of their neighbours. I always thought the sights and sounds of that sort of thing were a plus side of being out in the country. The story of the people shifting their neighbours cows for the bbq was quite hilarious. Rather a pity that the paddock hadn't just been sprayed, and they'd had to pay for spoiled milk.
Yeah just like the people who live in Courtenay Street apartments and complain, Idiots!
But . . .
"the smell of cows ruined the ambience."
"They cannot understand why someone should need to start a tractor at 5.30 in the morning".
"Couldn't you milk your cows a bit later"
Oh My Fucking God!!! these people need to be rounded up and shot.
I've been born, breed and still live in the city and even I can understand how any farmer would want to lynch these estate owning wannabes.
If they did milk the cows 'later' don't they understand that it will mean that the farmer will have to do the afternoon milking during the evening, then they will complain that they are trying to enjoy a relaxing night at home but the farmer is milking too late!?! poor farmers can't win
+ the fact that the milking time CAN'T just be changed suddenly. The cows have a rhythm & need to be milked twice a day at the same time. Otherwise their udders would get swollen & hurt them.
then there are the people who cant afford anywhere other than next to an airport/motorway or other cause of disturbance. i dont understand however why people would be naive enough to buy a house in the country or city center and expect it to be easy living without noise or discomfort. i mean, what can you possibly expect?
