tvnz national anthem

Which bands are playing? Who's goin? Which band you going for? ITS FREE!!! woo hoo!

Forums: NZ Music,

if you stay up till the wee hours youll see 48may, Sommerset and The WBC at the St James between 1-3:30

http://www.thewbc.com ]

I have been polishing my VCR for the last few weeks waiting for this.....
So chops how long a set will you get to play? I am sort of hoping that it will be long enough for the person in the control room to bounce around the venues so we see at least one number per band.
Anyone got more info please?

I think Auckland has two bands per hour, the other centres have one band per hour, so there ought to be time to see at least one number from each band per hour (only 5 songs after all), but it will really depend on the amount of filler...

amount of filler........ i had heard it was add free

I was more talking about dreck on behalf of the `celebrity' hosts...

How many songs will be lost to mindless drivel?

am i hearing things or have the wbc been moved to 12:30 am for this thing?

pretty sure Onanon are on about 11 or so. in fact we were told to be on stage at 11.07 pm.

what a huge logistical enterprise ... let's hope it's gonna be a yearly thing.

i'm looking forward to seeing simon comber, hes a fantastic songwriter. the international telepaths are going on at 1:30am. and we're playing with die! die! die! the same night at the crown. ARGGGGH! guess that means i'll be missing onanon. :-(

http://www.geocoties.com/lucylurex ]

does anyone know where the band times can be found? i can't see it on the tvnz site... am interested re: Wellington

crap!! i'm missing Die x3 and the International Telepaths at the Crown!! what a great line-up at a grreat venue!

jessie, the whole timetable is in the latest listener. Not sure about online, but it's definitely in that.

i dont have the listener- ¿anyone have a list of all the bands doing support for us?

// the whole timetable is in the latest listener

oh... does someone want to be a friendly kiwi and post it here?? pleasepleaseplease?

external link ]

it's not worth posting because it's "featuring" meaning that only a few bands are listed. complete listings are as rare as hen's teeth - though your local gig guide street press ought to have it covered.

i walked 15 minutes to go and read the listener at the shop. it had less information than the tvnz website. grrrr. why are they keeping it so hush hush i wonder?

Since I was doing this to work out a plan of attack for the weekend, I thought I'd post the Dunedin timetable here:

7pm - 8pm THE VERLAINES
8pm - 9pm SIMON COMBER
9pm - 10pm EVOLVER
10pm - 11pm ONANON
11pm - 12am RITALIN)

Only a couple of unfamiliar names: I really pity the 7 - 10 a.m. bands, as I guess these will be the low point in terms of people being actually awake, certainly I can't remember 7 a.m on a Sunday being part of my world for a very long time.

Anyone know what kind of sound to expect from Hannah Curwood, Vibrasics or Sujeto A Cambio (actually, I think I may have seen this person/group/whatever - at the Michael J Hex benefit gig - is that possible?).

//7am - 8am PLAGIARHYTHM

these guys are an interesting inventive jazz band - i reckon jazz enthusiasts ought to be up-ish around then ... i'm sure i've heard early morning jazz sundays on R1 at least ... and it sounds like a nice way to wake up too. i think the Vibrasics are similar, in terms of having a jazz-ish background.

ps, you know it myshkin, but i LOVE the DDTs - what a great way to herald the witching hour! not that they're witching or anything, they're just f*king great, in my opinion.

things have worked out fanfarkingtasticly for Dunners:

the broadcasted bands will be up in the Union Hall. no drinkies there, all ages, lots of security around (an amazingly redundant amount actually, but anyway, more audience for bands).

downstairs in ReFuel there will be a line up of non-broadcasted bands, along with pre and post broadcasted bands, playing. there will be drinkies.

that's sooo cool.

but watch out for the timetable - it's constantly changing - i guess no one will know till the day itself.

the interesting and alarming thing is that for broadcast, the foldback monitors and front of house sound gets cut off or completely turned down. i don't know why. it's just gonna be that way. that's really gonna affect how bands play and sing. and annoy the audience. but of course, that detail might change too, hopefully someone will see sense (ie Finn's band for the 7 World's Collide gig didn't have to do it, and the world didn't end and the sound didn't sound bad for broadcast).

odd. i'd be interested to know what's happening in other centres.

Hopefully the weather is overcast on sunday -- cold but not wet!!
does anyone know if entry is first in first served, or are you supposed to get free tix somewhere or what is the deal? is there a doors-open time?

i'm a little worried about that turning-the-sound-down thing. i sure hope duane can hear me!

http://www.geocities.com/lucylurex ]

yeah, how is that gonna work?

I have heard nothing about tickets, I think its just a bowl on up affair. When they say "Refuel" that of course means that it might be downstairs or it might be the MCR or even the Union Hall (I have actually heard that it will be the Hall - if so, its not that likely to be too packed to allow entry). Since the Verlaines are starting, I'll be sitting in the Link waiting anxiously for the doors to open. What am I saying, I'll in the Link anyway.

I'm gonna try and be in time for the Verlaines as well. I was wondering if they might have the video screen in the MCR and the live acts in the Hall. The thing in the ODT on Saturday certainly implied they'd be using the whole area.

thank you Carl that's very helpful.

There's no Pacifier in the new time table. Boo.

yes I had assumed that they would open the broadcast........... but seeing it starts right after TOTP they might have thought cute younger men would be the go
Anyway ....
I'm happy enough with the line up, and well done those folks for doing it..... is this the charter in action?

TV2 are donating time, ala telethon, for Mike Chunn et al's Play it Strange Foundation, which is all about getting high school kids to write and play music. of their own. and not just the boys who spend their recreation schedule ripping off 'wanky' solos not for technically-correct note. (i'm sorry, it just took me back to my dim dark past, waiting in the boy-dominated music room for them to finish already ...)

that's what i've heard anyway - but i'm off to a Mike Chunn chaired meeting tonight where he tells us more about the Foundation's objectives etc.

bangs head on desk............ d'oh honest i did know that... i answered it correclty in the music month parlimently question... i feel shame.

//but i'm off to a Mike Chunn chaired meeting tonight where he tells us more about the Foundation's objectives etc.

can you feed that back.. i am quite interested

//bangs head on desk

yeah, i felt sure you already knew, but was kinda asking on behalf of other people who may not have known! kinda like a rhetorical question, but you didn't know it was until you'd heard the answer. :)

legendary carl, thank you so much!

Rhian sheean is my cousin..

// Rhian sheean is my cousin..

Ive been waiting alll (since i knew about it) for this! Its going to be awsome. I guess ill leave after about 5 or 6 am ? Im not too fond of any of the bands after that... onanon also just realeased a new album which I gave away a few copys at Radio One the other day! Its... ok I hope there better live. Ritalin will be fucking awsome...

Im not sure if i should wear earplugs or not... I got some REALLY REALLY good ones and I dont want to lose them... but... Ringing in my ears and going a bit deaf isnt really worth it :| hmmmmm

Also on a side note, alpha cast is drum is bass ? Yes ? No ?

Found this...
Cd review (kinda) more information about onanon..

Alpha Cast won the Battle of the Bands - they're a three piece band, not drum'n'bass at all. I think I've only seen them once, when they supported the Verlaines last year. You must be pretty new to Dunedin if you're into music and haven't seen Onanon play: they're pretty busy. Don't tell iluvtheclean, but I haven't actually heard their CD yet: I bought it, but my upstairs stereo isn't working well, so I can't compare it with the live sound. I think I can safely say they don't sound much like Ritalin, but then I haven't actually been to a Ritalin gig.
