Yeah.... Led Zeppelin, Matelica spring to mind

Forums: The Bar,

still got a soft spot for bitch seeking missile

Queen. One of my very top faves (if not the top) of all time. :)

Queen are great, but I have to say I much prefer there 80s more poppy style to their 70s rock days ... plus Made in Heaven from the 90s is a top album ...

- Black Sabbath
- Jimi Hendrix
- The Who
- Led Zepplin
- Cream
- Uriah Heep (Bassist Gary Thain was from Christchurch)

Motorhead
Queen
AC/DC
Fleetwood Mac
Police
The Doors
The Knack
The Beatles
Rolling Stones
The Who

Well i definitely agree with the Ramones, but i wouldn't have thought of rock (more like punk is where you'd usually find them categorised...) and the Beatles? I luv thm but they're not quite rock tho are they...? Great choices tho! Some of those are my faves too! :)

the ramones, sex pistols, the police, Deep Purple....They all are favorites of mine, i should have added them to my list but i ran out of thought so i posted what i had. but yeh all these bands will be enjoyed and influential for generations to come.

the beatles?
definitely a rock band
right the way through their career- awesome rock songs
just a little more diverse than some other rock bands
same boat as queen and the kinks

chicago

punk is just a sub genre from rock.
Beatles are ROCK n' roll, during their hippy stage their music was wicked

yeah, i dig you and l_sams choices,
although i notice you have no GnR

the beatles are timeless classics

They put the Roc into Rock and Roll, Weather it was there 1962-1967 or 1967-70 stuff, i enjoy all. THE BEATLES ARE THE BEAST.

I don't consider Gn'R that old, or I would have included Metallica & RHCP + I don't even like them

//+ I don't even like them
Gn'R that is

Tama Drummer is a man who considers moving from GNR to the Foo Fighters as a musical development. And oh yeah, gnr were formed in 86, and I think the point is, we're talkign about the sound more than anything.

i used to like RHCP back in the early 90s, come Californiacation - it sold out.

Saul just fuck up already & get over it

My mum used to flat with the Damned so i guess i really got into bands like the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, the Clash etc, because of her. She was the first one who ever played me the Ramones. :)

ac/dc metallica guns and roses etc

Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Clash, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden...more...those are my top five.

gnr.
acdc.
jadakiss.

I'm currently enjoying The Rolling Stones a great deal.

listening to beggars banquet right now - looove the stones.

Mott the Hoople

a fishy friend of mine introduced me to a band called jellyfish.
i would have to put them up their in the top 5 "old skool" bands of all time - if you haven't heard them before, you should. They are more than amazing.

i cant believe the 2 most important bands to non-mainstream rock as we know it still aint been mentioned

well, enlighten us wise one.

¿velvets & stooges?- ¿what bands have had this kind of impact on nonmainstream rock

ok- & big star

?

Velvet Underground is about the only old rock band I listen to. Oh, and Led Zep.

Haha, fond memories of drunken air guitar to 'Black Dog' on New Years just passed. About the point my wife decided to leave the room. :D :D

Um, where "just passed" is almost 6 months ago now... I wish there was a recall post function on this site. Not for the "just passed" aspect of the comment... :)

The Velvet Undergroud, they are also a great influence.

IRON MAIDEN! (The DiAnno/Burr years)

I used to have a tshirt somewhere...

Prefer the Dickinson years myself, I still maintain that Live After Death is still one of the best live albums of any musical genre. They slightly lost it for me after No Prayer for the Dying though.
What about Judas Priest? Anyone who can sing songs like Delivering the Goods (great riff) and Turbo Lover like Rob Halford while knowing what he knew has to get some kudos. By the way, the movie Rock Star was a hilarious piss take of that whole saga.......

Yeah, I was surprised to learn Emily Dickinson fronted a British metal band in the 80s. I guess she figured if she was going to bother to come back after death she should try and update her format. Still not sure the beard suited her, nor would I have picked things like 'Ryme of the Ancient Mariner' as influences on a poet who's style was so tight in life.

"whose style", sorry.

Or indeed the ability to sing a sustain note after every chorus ala "Run to the Hills" or "Bring your Daughter to the Slaughter"or indeed every song between 1983 and 1992.

W.A.S.P, Twisted Sister, Whitesnake.
