FHT 9/11

One of my rwing "buddies" informed me that Disney/Miramax have pulled the plug on Michael Moores new "film/documentary".
Confirmation, conspiricys, comments, all welcome.

Forums: The Bar,

From Salon.com:
The Walt Disney Company is trying to stop Miramax, which it owns, from distributing Michael Moore's new film, "Farenheit 911," which links President Bush to prominent Saudis, including members of Osama bin Laden's family. Moore's agent claims that Disney is concerned about the effect distributing the movie might have on tax breaks it enjoys for its theme park and hotels in Florida, where Jeb Bush is governor. Disney says it's rather concerned about alienating the public by involving itself in what a senior executive calls a "highly charged partisan political battle." (N.Y. Times) In a note on his Web site, Moore says, "All I can say is, thank God for Harvey Weinstein and Miramax, who have stood by me during the entire production of this movie." (MichaelMoore.com)

Or the whole NY Times piece:

interesting that ICON didn't want it either

hopefully any publicity is good publicity, and this will mean that someone will step up and get it made. sounds like Moore was going for big budget, but it doesn't mean he can just make the film in his 'backyard' as he has before on previous documentaries.

Disney being leaned on?

if it gets made, hope Moore interviews Chomsky.

Moore would never interview Chomsky because that would mean people would realise that actually, Moore is not a god, he's a guy who fiddles with things in order to build "better" narratives".

i don't think anyone is under the illusion that moore's a god

he was certainly a god when bowling for columbine came out.

i like Moore a lot. he reminds me of Socrates ... not that i knew Socrates ... but just that Soc was a real annoying twat - used to go around mewling questions at people in authority, never providing any answers, making people angry and making them think about things a bit.

Socrates likened himself to a gnat - annoying little fly. that seems to be what Moore's into too. but unlike Socrates, he's making a living out of it, thanks partially to the media-sensationalistic-info-bite world we live in. and thanks to his craftiness.

yeah i agree with you iluvtheclean

//he was certainly a god when bowling for columbine came out.

no he wasn't
perhaps you confuse the word 'god' with 'very famous person'

God no, sellable commodity yes.
Its on teletext, it must be true.
i think Chomsky to Moore is a giant leap, unless your pooling vocal dissenters.
Disney are apparantly unhappy with "totally biased" presenting. This may be pre-election nerves or anxiety over lawsuits.
The end result of this situation is that more people will laugh at the "Land of the Free".
Anyone know whose distributing/making/financing the "anti Michael Moore" doco?

perhaps you're taking it too 'literally'.

perhaps you should 'lighten up'.

ha ha ha ha ha
fantastic!

rumors concerning the Disney Eeyore movie are now doing the rounds. Cant show a donkey pre-election, No word as yet on the Dumbo remake. Apparantly they are interested in showing the video footage the head of Bahgdad prison took of the female soliders showering.its a wonderful world.

fucking good job - it's about time someone shut that moron up.

It turns out that Moore has known for ages that Disney had no intention of distributing the film.

Oh no! Not another case of Michael Moore manipulating the truth to suit himself ... will he never learn! Is he really any better than any other populist?

It's a simple business decision that Moore has overblown to make out that there is a huge media conspiracy against him. Disney have made a prudential decision based on the fact that Moore's film makes certain claims that could be defined as slander. By not publishing it, Disney have protected themselves from a lawsuit or more from members of the ruling elite.

Funnily enough, there is a mass media conspiracy,(Chomsky wrote about this years and years ago) but Michael Moore is just a crude propaganda tool and even if he weren't, he couldn't be considered a major threat to 'freedom.'

"conspiracy" is the wrong word. that's a four-letter-word to Chomks. he called it an "intitutional truism". IE "the media carefully select what will and won't be portrayed so as not to fuck off their advertising/business interests because if they do then they go broke". it's not a "conspiracy", it's just the logical path any media institution has to tread by definition.

As for Mike Moore, blergh... glad he does what he does but he can't be compared to people like Chomsky. I see Moore as the Paul Holmes of the left, if you get me. His books are ok but in front of a camera he just works me right up.

There was a website dedicated to picking apart Bowling for Columbine (like that would be hard...) but it was made by a guy with a VERY strong agenda himself who was in the process of making his own film on the second ammendment which was to serve as the antithesis to BFC, and it was fairly clear that his website was simply a publicity tool for this. the link is below, if you care
