radio playlists...

i know there a more than a few budding or established Dj's (of the radio play songs type)
so there should be a place where we can all put down our playlists
discuss song choice etc.

here goes...

Comments

last night i tuned in to radio one (dunedin's bNet station), where i used to dj a few years back. it took me a while to get used to the active play list when i moved up to welli. i was pleasantly surprised to hear some familiar stuff on 'the one' - die!die!die! with 'lalala' and ghostplane too, but what really surprised me was hearing 'pink frost' by the chills and then another track of that genre - i think it was 'down in splendour'. i mean, you don't hear that stuff on active much.

and as an aside: more calexico, please.

To be honest, you don't hear it so often on the One either: this is their reaction to NZ Music month. They've just played Spelling Mistakes and Flesh D-Vice: very rare on the One.

Are you sure anyone really gives a crap Joel? at the end of the day it's just a list of songs.. not significantly different from everyone posting whatever the hell they've been playing lately.
While people might be a tiny bit interested, it's really just a way of showing off.

kia ora!

sounds like most of the forums on this site. s'okay innit?!

i disagree with you entirely
i see this sort of thing as pople sharing ideas and experiences
e.g. what they are playing
i find ti interesting what other stations are playlisting
as i don't hear any radio outside of wellington (except national radio...)
and it's always a good read, reading people's song selection
because usually more thought than average is put into these
as it's not just winamp in your bedroom
i like seeing whether people play genre's in blocks or mix them up more
and it's the same as when people are talking about equipment and gear
i'm sharing what i play rather the what gear i have...

workin hard again eh ;)

Valid point, but at the same time, well no actually, if I don't like it, I shouldn't read it.
And that goes for all of you out there!

also, the new Calexico EP is grand

it is aye! i fully rate the first track 'alone again or' but i was a little disappointed with the remixes.

yeah, i am working hard... hmm...

remixes are almost always a total copout (in my opinion of course)... moreso from a band like that, but hey, what're ya gonna do?
Make an NZM forum complaining about it!!!

(another thread successfully hijacked)

!!!!!!!!

Where do I get it?

The new Calexico EP, I mean.

I read about it in the last Staple mag, they said there were only 200 copies of which 50 were available in nz. that sold me instantly. i think it's an australasian issue - anyway, I got it from smokecds - link below.

you gotta get it...

http://www.smokecds.com/cd/34173 ]

I got it off ye olde interweb.
for shame

I just hope that they still have a copy in 2 days time...

//remixes are almost always a total copout
I am glad you said almost... wait till you hear the Jet Jaguar K1500 remix (Thanks again, Mike :)... it is quite brilliant. Will be appearing on a Deep show (Radio Active Tuesday nights from 11pm) sometime soon... then on a K1500 Project EP...

I think remixes are a great idea. As long as they are approached the right way. I think the remixer should take the source material from the artist and make a track which fits in with their catalogue.

i think so too - as in remixes can be quite excellent - like the black seeds' 'Pushed' album is a good example of remixes done well. Salmonella Dub's remix album is also pretty cher. And who can forget Wayne Coyne singing "Can't Get You Out of My Head"? Pure brilliance! I could go on... but that could lead to another really long list and we all know how boring they can be ;)

//I think remixes are a great idea. As long as they are approached the right way. I think the remixer should take the source material from the artist and make a track which fits in with their catalogue. //

That's the thing.. a lot of the times remixes don't fit in with the artists sound or ethos... just a hip tacked on thing to do... I think I've just heard unfortunate remix's on the whole... like the Dismemberment Plan's remix album... what a sad note to go out on.. a couple of good remixes, but mostly a bit of an abortion.
That said, Trent Reznor's remix of Puff Daddy - Victory is totally superbadass...
Actually, I think it was the NIN singles that soured me on remixes... tons of tracks that aren't all that different from the original and wholly worthless
I'm sure I'm missing other remixes I enjoyed...

anyway, clearly differing viewpoints, so I'll leave it at that
