I just heard your new single.

I suggest you don't go slagging off Kirsten Morelles voice anymore.

Ohhhh Burn!

who?

singer with goldenhorse?

The single on their site sounds ok, is that the one you are talking about?
It is catchy and they are all ok musicians from the sound of it. Golden horse are a good nz band too. I don't see the point of a rivalry or something. Maybe if they sounded the same or something but they don't, they wouldn't even have the same fans. I'm missing the one vital link, I know but whats the problem?

This is the post I am refering to.

//Am I the only person in NZ that thinks Goldenhorse is one of the WORST bands in the country. I hate it when us Kiwis follow what other people say is good, just because THEY think that it is good music. In fact her voice is the most irritating voice I have ever heard and the songs they write are childish with no real passion. When is NZ going to stop promoting "safe" bands and put talented people on the radio?
ps I think she is georgeous looking but please leave singing to people that can.

Dark Angel //

'leave the singing to those who can'

Kirsten is a trained Opera singer with over 20 years performance experience, her control and tone is clear and consistant. If you don't like the sound of her voice, that's one thing, but to say the girl can't sing is a joke.

not nice. They both have nice voices, why be a hater?

Umm no. Angelsound is a tryhard 4TH place battle of the bands Ranui pub rock band.

She (Angel) left these forums running with her tail between her legs soon after she posted some of her 'mature lyrics with real passion' and was ridiculed for them. I'd say darkangel is venting her frustration due to a realisation that her or her band will never get close to what Goldenhorse can do.

Of course there is a chance that it's not her, making me a complete ass, but i seriously doubt it.

//'mature lyrics with real passion' //

Can you link me there? I feel like a smile...

Hi there Angel here from the band Angelsound. I just read all the shit people have written and am astounded to read the comment that started it all off, especially when I didnt write that! I love kirsten Morelles voice and think she is an increadibly talented muscician and people who know me know I dont slag off other people, its just not me. I am also a trained opera singer with 20 years experience and I have always admired Kirsten for her individuality and think she deserves all her sucess. The person who made the comment about Angelsound getting 4th place in the Battle in Ranui is a load of shit - we got into the regional finals at the Kings Arms and had to pull out because I got sick.

I hope that clears it all up - its not the first time it has happened to me, we seem to get alot of this shit happening to us. We played a gig at the masonic and someone rang up and pretended to be from our band saying we wanted to go on last! It makes us laugh really because you gotta love the haters!!

Keep an eye on our website because we are about to re launch it. Angelsound are touring the country at the moment which has been amazing fun! We have just recorded our album called "Death toll of our generation" so keep an eye out for Angelsound :)

//especially when I didnt write that!

..so you let someone else use your login to complain about Kirsten Morelle? That's a bit silly. Are you going to out them so you can reclaim your integrity?

//you gotta love the haters

..you love someone that tried to fuck up your gig?? Man, you're a better man than I.

I tried to find it when i posted that, but couldn't. Try a search for "Your love is a knife and it's cuts me so deep" or something.

whats wrong with Ranui? Carjackings at the ranui dairy are down.
I hear Kelston is the new Ranui.

Allright now is as good a time as any. I was going to wait for intergalactic records to put their forum back up but I don't think it will happen before their competition is over.
When my Nephew rang us up to tell us his band were entering the battle of the bands this year we were all really happy for him. The kid loves music and is pretty well useless doing anything else. In a fair competition he stands a good chance to win, I am biased but he's good. I mentioned the 'competition' to a musician friend who filled me in to what the competition is really about. I point this out to anal sound just so they understand what I have to say is not personal.
In talking to my friend he pointed out a few discrepencies about this so- called competition and suggested I email a friend of his up in Auckland, which I did. What this friend of his had to say was eye opening for me, although from what I hear probably not for anyone else.
1. In 2002 a band called stardrunk won, more on that later. follow this link. http://www.nzmusic.com/topic.cfm?show=all&i=10359#post180878
2. Then of course there was this http://www.nzmusic.com/topic.cfm?i=5746&start=1 back in 2003.
3. Last year the buzzword was Wildcard. A number of bands on good terms with the promoters got them. They were knocked out of the competition but miraculously came back. This included a Metal group with a drum machine and 45 minute songs, just the sort of commercial thing you want to win a competition. It also included a band described to myself as the 3rd most mediocre band in Auckland.
4. Back to stardrunk. Note the name Aaron Miller. He manages Stardrunk. He manages Aangelsound. He manages slipping tongue. Aaron is also hpying himself as the marketing manager for
INTERGALACTIC RECORDS.

Does anyone see a HUGE conflict of interest here.
In case you didn't get it the first time CONFLICT OF INTEREST. you all know what this means, it is theareason why in real business when a company like coke has a competition the people working at coca cola cannot enter, their families cannot enter, even the builder contracted to make their toilets down the far end of the office block cannot enter this one, or the cleaners, the haulage company who take coke to the stores and the list goes on. But it is real business Andrew Featherston makes money, so it is business.
If you agree that angelsound should pull out of the battle of the bands post below the words. PULL OUT NOW. If you agree intergalactic should be more transparent wait until he puts his forum back up (sic).
Show some integrity Angelsound and pull out. It is not too late.

PULL OUT NOW!

manamana you're a bit of a cock aren't you?

I don't particularly like Angelsound myself, but why say shite like that on their forum?

i love you.

Thanks. I'm pretty cool.

Best reply ever, manamana.

// i love you.

hey, you stole that from me!

i love you prozaco.

Thats cos your both cocks!

oh and portia, COCK

Your mum.

Just a few comments to make... Our forum is down due to hackers. A wildcard entry is basically a band that the 'Judges' think were really good but due to strong competition didn't make it through their heats. When we have shows that we want to bulk up to give a better crowd (which is good for the bands and the bars) we use wildcard entries. Wildcard entries are not new to the competition. We have used it in past years in towns with large number of heats and the top two scoring bands who don't make it through get Wildcarded. As for commercailism - that is not what the judging criteria is based around. These are the criteria - PROFESSIONALISM, SONGWRITING, BAND TIGHTNESS / TEAM INTERACTION, MUSICIANSHIP, VOCAL ABILITY, ORIGINALITY, ENTERTAINMENT FACTOR, CROWD RESPONSE,IMAGE, POTENTIAL. If we wanted a commercial product we would be involved in NZ Idol. We are looking for the best bands. The best bands on the night (in the eye of the judges) win. If you want to be a judge and see how it works and have your say, then give me a call. If you have any questions please call me. If you understood the logistics involved in a competition this size and how many staff members we have (only three of us - we don't have as many employees as Coke), you would realise that it would be pretty hard to rig the competition and we don't have the time or inclination to rig it. If we find a band that we think should win and don't win wouldn't it would be easier to sign them to our label than try and pursuade the huge amounts of judges to choose them as the winners? By the way, I only just started working here at Intergalactic Records - long after Stardrunk won and after Angelsound and Slipping Tongue entered the competition. I am not entering. The bands I manage are. The competition is fair. I am not judging their heats or placing bands. Hope that clears things up a bit. If not, ring me and I can explain. (09) 827 4500 or (09) 827 4544

Yeah but the facts are that you do work for Intergalactic Records and they are running the competition. Personally I like Angelsound and I believe they will do well in the competition on their own merit. But there is always going to be people who think they did well because their manager works for IGR and will be put off the band. So I believe they really have nothing to gain by entering this competition. People are already voicing their concerns, what kind of reaction do you think people will give if Angelsound wins this year? Battle of the bands doesn’t have a great reputation for being completely fair and above board as it is (whether that is reasonable or not it’s peoples opinions) and I believe that if a band has members or management that work for IGR they shouldn’t enter for exactly that reason

added the fact that bands feel the need to compete is a stupid idea

"....I am also a trained opera singer with 20 years experience...."

Er......riiight.

I hate it how people pull out the "I'm an opera singer" thing when they're nowhere near that level of quality.
What was the last opera you did?

Saying you're an opera singer, implying that would make you a better rock singer, is like saying you're in a band, implying that would make you a better opera singer. Apples and oranges.

Yeah your right the term "opera singer" may not be entirely accurate, I think people say that but what they really mean is that they are "classically trained" which is actually the exact same thing. But your right I dont have an operatic voice although I can sing classically which means I can sing properly, which ever way you want to interpret this. I have always found it increadibly wanky to admit that I am a classicaly trained vocalist but my band insist on bringing it up. I had this guy say to me once "my girlfriend is a singer ,and I said cool so am I, and he said what genre of music are you in, and I said rock and HE said dont feel ashamed its ok that you cant sing properly and have to sing rock! Anyway I have sung in several musicals and when I sing my rock I really do put into practice everything I know about clasical singing and I know that one day when im over the whole rock thing that opera is exactly where I will be because I really do crave it. One of the singers that I admire is Pat Bennitar because she is also a classicaly trained vocalist and choses to sing rock. I really believe that what I sing in Angelsound is really quite challenging and I would find it easier to sing a classical song. Ok finished now :)

//I can sing classically which means I can sing properly

Yeah, speaking of wanky, the above statement? That's wank. I can't sing classical but I have sung professionally for several years now. It pisses me off that people who've done a little classical singing think they are so much better than rock/contemporary singers. Yeah sure, you've done heaps of classical, well congratulations, it doesn't mean shit in the rock world if you don't have good lyrics, good stage presence, banter, dress sense, confidence, mic technique etc etc.
Most successful rock singers only use some classical technique (such as correct breathing), because it sounds shit in a rock context. things that are frowned upon in classical (breathy voices, allowing your voice to crack) can sound fucking cool in rock. There are people that do both successfully (Deborah Wai Kapohe springs to mind) but they know to keep the two totally seperate.

Also, I really like the idea that when angelsound finishes you'll go be an opera singer. If you go to any university in NZ, you'll find people who have trained to be opera singers since before their teenage years, and even then most of them don't make the cut, even after doing their degrees. Maybe 1 out of 250 would get to study overseas on scholarship, which would be a prerequisite for actually having a career in opera, though not a guarantee. It's debatably quite a bit harder to be a successful opera singer than to be a successful rock musician.

so where has your sweet singing got you?

i think you're reading into angel's posts a little too much - she explained her background training without any pretention as far as i could see

//But your right I dont have an operatic voice although I can sing classically which means I can sing properly, which ever way you want to interpret this.

Well, that's pretty fucking clear to me.

But yeah no real problem with Angel and band, you (angel) seem to have put your foot in your mouth once or twice in the past (as have I), and your music does nothing for me but I'm sure you're lovely in person.

It's a bit wanky to post a list of personal achievements on an internet thread. If you're really interested, feel free to email me (see my profile), you'd be surprised.

rad, what's your email?

See my profile....jesus dude do you really care?

and you ask yourself this after dealing shit on people like this for how long?

jsut interested on what's happening on both sides of the trench

Dealing shit on people? I guess I do, when I think it's deserved, but it's not like I'm unique in having a problem with prima donnas. I just tell it how I see it, same as you. I think most contemporary singers would take exception to being labelled as inferior to classical singers - it's like comparing a (rock) guitar player to a violinist. Maybe I was reading between the lines prior to Angel's "I'm fantastic" spiel, but even you would have to admit there's a definite element of elitist thinking in her more recent post.

Nah, I don't think I'm anyone's hero - I just hate fuckwits that talk about themselves in third person. So that includes you. Chump.
