I agree with polynesian, some NZ hip hop sounds uniquely New Zealand, you just have to really listen...but if you don't like hip hop then you won't like it NZ or otherwise...and then you probably wouldn't feel the NZ-ness in it anyway.
I like a wide range of NZ music, but especially Rock, Hip Hop & RnB.

Labelling hip hop etc black music is pretty damn ignorant man. when you think about it, rock music in all its forms (including metal) comes out of music that was mainly identified with african americans. rock n roll was a synthesis of bluegrass country and blues, and its basically gone from there. so your beloved metal has just as much 'blackness' as the next style

hip hop is SHIT. It involves stupid people talking to very, very simple music. Talking is NOT an art form. There is nothing artistic about talking in unison to shit music. Not only is the music shit, but the 'singers' (HAH) are also ridiculously stupid and are embarrassments to themselves eg calling themselves 'niggers' and miss spelling their 'singing names'. Talking is not a skill, Slash or Dimebag pulling a 2 minute guitar solo using 10+ different techniques are perfect examples of what a REAL skill is. Generally hip hop, r and b and all types of rap are stupid, and are designed to appeal to people who are stupid, and the fact that it is currently the favoured type of music in NZ only makes me laugh at how un-intellegent the common NZer is. Good luck to anyone who comes into this category, i hope a future at a saw mill looks appealing.
