Rock hip-hop outfit, Stylus are set to headline what is shaping up to be a big night for the youth of the North Shore. Following on from the release of their debut album 'Painkillers' and a recent tour with Alien Ant Farm, the band will play a rare all ages show as part of their nation wide tour. Four other top acts from punk rock to heavy metal will accompany them in a line up designed to reflect the musical taste of young people on the North Shore. The event is to be put on in celebration of Youth Week 2004 and also coincides with New Zealand Music Month.
"The relevance of both these events is obvious" says Andrew Treeby, organiser. "Music plays a big part in the lives of many young people whether they play in a band or just listen and enjoy going to live gigs. Right now there is so much good happening in the local and NZ music scene. Young musicians are contributing to this in a big way. Just look at bands such as Stylus, The Bleeders, Bolbox Rex, Goodnight Nurse and so many more. They're all out there gigging, recording, making music videos, getting airplay and doing what they do at a professional level."
Other bands who are supporting Stylus in the exiting Youth Week event are are Stardrunk, Ubiquitous, The Rabble and Six Day War. Mr Treeby points out that each are highly talented bands who have all enjoyed recent individual successes.
"Hamilton band 'Stardrunk' have cemented their position on the local rock scene in 2004, kicking off the year touring with Blindspott and The Bleeders. In March, the band enjoyed further recognition when they played with international act 'Alien Ant Farm' in Auckland with 48 May and Stylus".
"Energetic punk rockers 'The Rabble' in April, played with American hardcore band, 'Sick Of It All'. Back in February they were chosen to play X-Air - Extreme Sports Festival in Hamilton which also featured Blindspott, Elemeno P and Scribe. Most recently, the bands debut music video 'Bored' has screened on C4 and Juice TV"
"Established shore rock band 'ubiquitous' have recently launched their Auckland Secondary Schools tour following on from an appearance at the Crusty Demons motorcross tour. Late last year, the band recorded their debut single 'How I Remain' and has since had airplay on Auckland radio stations.
New Zealand Battle Of The Bands 2003 winners, 'Six Day War' add a much anticipated heavy element to the show. They have been making a real impact in the local scene with some outstanding performances. The band released their debut single 'Permanent Shadow' in March and played a ground shaking instore performance at Real Groovy to launch it. The band also performed at Crusty Demons as part of their hectic beginning to 2004."
The Youth Week gig is a not for profit event and is receiving support from the North Shore City Council as well as the North Shore Youth Council. The event kicks off at 7.30pm at the Albany Hall off the Albany Highway and will cost $5 at the door.
