Design your dream concert venue.

I saw this posted in the topic about radiohead. New Zealand needs a big fat concert venue. Like, a huge slab of land erected to fit 20,000. 10,000 of those, seated. And lets imagine a PA system worth more than the building itself! :) Then would radiohead come?

Forums: The Bar,

my dream concert venue.

in the middle of a large cemetary (the big K for example) bands such as Slayer, Deicide, Napalm Death, Monsterworks, 8FS all playing in this cemetary with a large crowd smoking hemp, tripping acid and drinking heaps of piss.....and of course the "Venue Security" would all be longhaired 60s stoner lookalikes with AK-47s, M-16s, Kalashnikovs and Grenades to make sure that if any Preppy Jock and/or Indecently dressed Slapper obsessed with Top 40/Chart Music Gets within 500m of the venue then the "Venue Security" would be given full and unlimited permission to use "Reasonable and "Justified" Force" against the these pestilence trying to wreck a decent metal festival.

fucken slappers.

thats the spirit DeathMachine.....keep it real bro.

theres no way that an indoor arena holding 20,000 or more would be my 'dream' concert venue,
i'd prefer a far more intimate setting, an would be prepared to pay a premium to see big acts in smaller venues....
music sounds awful in huge indoor venues.. .

I'm with you mate. My idea of the perfect concert is a favourite band, seen with 15 of my best friends in a venue that holds about thirty. Screw watching from the back of a stadium.

yeah thats true, but theres the whole 'dream' part. this is where we chuck in a stand thats right in front of the stage which sits your 15 friends. this also has a big fuck off PA system chilling with you.

to sort the sound problem in a big venue, you need more speakers frequently placed/dotted around the building. to sort the visual problem, you need giant screens, which people could TXT vote onto what camera angle they can see or something...

i saw the D4 in a pub with 5 other mates of mine in new plymouth ages ago.....we were the only ones there. One of the best gigs ive been to ever, they werent gonna play but we got them to in the end.

I agree with the last few posts, from both the tech. & enjoyment perspetives. Smaller venues make the gig much more personal & memorable. And as already mentioned many large venues have issues when it comes to decent sound & view of the artists.

Petone bowling alley on friday nights where they (apparently) have disco lights and blacklights. See you on lane 5.

one day.

its true.

We so should run a gig there . .. i think its still got the spacies out the back as well .. .

i reckon there'd be planty of folks keen to attend or play (music)

could include a game of bowling in the door price

... and live video feeds, one camera for every lane "monitor" thang where they have your scoring.. per synth. and a footcam.

I have been to disco bowling at Petone. It was great fun.

I think we should all get together and recreate the "We're gonna bowl tonight" scene from Grease 2.

Big Fat Field to cater for the so many numbers. Seperate tents for all to just drink in their & just go hard..(this is to cater for 20,000 or so). Massive screens everywhere even in the sky held by 2 very patient jet planes. This can be scattered say about 2 or 3 massive screens so that would be like 6 very patient jet people in jet planes willing to stay there for the entire concert. All your favourite bands playing...massive speakers everywhere...man im getting a bit out there..i think i'll post again soon with a more real based..dream concert venue...hold on...

jet planes usually don't just 'stay there'

helicopters maybe would be cool

harrier's do.

harriers do, but the engines would do a nice job of flame grilling the concertgoers, plus they're fucking noisy

Perhaps a venue with seperate raised teirs with each holding about 1500 people standing. The venue will resemble a huge movie theater with the stage in the middle offering uncompromised view from everywhere. The P.A would be huge and have ample bottom end as to not sound tinny under a large load, video and lighting would be massive and the venue would employ me as a full time Engineer.

It would be suitible for huge events so we can attract the larger acts but it would also have the ability to close off any number of the teirs to make it more intimate.

It would off course have to make a profit to keep going but would not be greedy, it would help young bands gain experiance on the big stage by offering frequent celerbrations of local music (would would be recorded live using the state of the art sound system)and would open its doors to anyone (within reason) needing pratice space at a decent rate. Wana Be Audio Engineers could pratice engineering bands that have booked the venue as a pratice space.

More to come when i get inspired

thats absolutely perfect!!! The whole, local bands thing really makes it fully politically correct! I suggest you find yourself some grants, an architect, builders, buy a piece of land, and make it dude! Dont forget the ability to turn from all ages to R18 gigs in one easy pull of a lever that flips the bar over to be a pet shop.

What if your dream concert venue was just a little one? I'd love for the old 20c Arcade (or was it 50c) to become a venue. If you were luck you might even get some of the awesome games back, like hyper olympics / track & field and just have them around the walls, ITD BE AWESOME, I TELLS YA!

Probably only hold 300-500 (maybe even less) and support pillars might be in the way like the one at bodega, but still, its my dream so it works.
