Does It Matter If They're Christian?

Forums: NZ Music,

well considering 83% of New Zealanders are christians, its hard to tell .....sumtimes so why care..thats what i say anyhow!

and considering 83% well ur going to get the odd one or two righhhhhtt!!!

where did you pull that figure from ???

"The 1996 Census showed that only 57% of the population consider themselves Christian in any sense whatsoever"

"This was a 7% drop over the previous five years. At this rate, less than half of New Zealanders will be even nominally Christian in a few years time."

83% my ass. where did you get that figure from ? church ?

snap - paha

another quote
"Of those under 30 only 47% are in any way affiliated to Christianity"

the numbers are going down cause people are wising up

83% of NZers are christian??? what ever!
The last sensus had Secular/non-religious as the largest group, get your facts straight buddy.
It really annoys me how many people out there actually only ever consider that they are christian when begged the question - Like they are in no-way real christians, but don't want to admit it through some thing in the back of the minds telling them they might go to hell if they consider otherwise.

I'm a firm believer in reality. Time, space & the universe exists regardless of what anyone chooses to believe.

k
BUDDY i'm sorri 4 believing something i read, its so steriotypical and i'll think twice b4 saying somethin BUT do'nt BUDDY me !! gezz ...errr

k well sorri, i must admitt i got it from a christian site 83% sounded like a hell of alot to me to but since they were CHRISTIANS i thought well they must be telling the truth.....mi bad

i got my info from a christian site too

"... but since they were CHRISTIANS i thought well they must be telling the truth....."

wow, that really gets the whole religion thing in a nutshell there...

well ur not the one being called BUDDY lol sumissive porn not bad eh ?? where u cummin from?

And I quote: "why r u on about? i'm not a submissive porn? god! i'm just saying wat i though.......hmmmerr

sam106 "

wot r U on bout now ?? hmmmerrr (jst to annoy u)

it doesnt matter if their christian. ill still listen to their music. however, like any other band, if their music is crap, then i wont listen to it. also, if their music has all these secret god messages and christian lryics, etc, etc......then i will not listen to their music. if the members of a band are christian & their religion doesnt influence their music, then great. thats just fine. ill listen to it.

//secret god messages

ah yes- but you'll never know will you.. that why the call them 'secret' god messages.. muhuha

most people want to express their christanity through music so alot of the real christian music does have heaps god etc listen to radiorema that will give u an understanding.

//most people want to express their christanity through music

woooo - hold on a tic .. i think you should stop reading the strange site youre getting this stuff from.. its melting your brain

mmmm, im not into actual christian music. its just sad that with bands like Steriogram, some ppl are like "well, if a couple of the band members are christian, im not gonna listen to their music." wen really, their music is pretty cool.

That is pretty stupid if u ask me ! REALLY why should peoples religion -(if they are not showing it through their song ) come out from the backround and then suddenly noone likes them

lol fuk ur a crack up i mean most christians! lol

even so - how do you know this? have you surveyed most christians on how they want to express their faith??

no, ur not getting what i mean i mean i know a hell of alot of christians and if anyone of them was going to sing in a band most would bring their christianity into it they are not ashamed and whos to blame them if its such a major part of their lifes to them.

nope, it just happens to be that their music sucks anyway

cause they don't like music

bro...christians or not christians...isnt it still music? im not meaning to sound kinda dumb to those who dont like da music but.....oh neva mind. but the main point is 'how can stuff like this affect people?'.....think to yourself about it....does music hurt u? if it does....oh neva mind...you r all gonna swear at me anywayz!!! lol

Doesn't matter if a member or two is christian. I'd only be turned off if the BAND was christian in their lyrics or general preachiness.

argh...christian rock....go away! 3 chord songs about how much they love something that may or may not be true? arrgh. i have nothing against bands that claim to be christian but dont make massive deal about it like chevelle

does it matter if they're jewish? muslim? hindu?
what stupid poll.
i think it matters more if a person is 'fundamentalist' in their approach to their religion as they tend to be the we-know-what's-best-for-you-mate type of arseholes who treat women like dirt and blow up your local pizza hut for no good reason.
picking on a particular religion is just fucking dumb though.
sorry, but it really is...

The question is topical and reflective of recent current events and media attention - eg Havoc this week, 20/20 last Sunday, US Clear Channel in court, and the so-called " christian rock formula" in the US. The rise of Christianity in mainstream music is a popular discussion point on these forums and elsewhere. People obviously have an opinion on the matter - hence the opinion poll. If muslim, jewish or hindi musicians gain as much attention and their music has as much impact on our present music culture then opinion polls should be made about that too.

Your concern is the very point of the poll - There's all this attention about Christian musicians at the moment, but does it really matter?

possibly. i just find talking about religion distasteful. and in this instance a purely media-led phenomenon too.

you r so rite.....what a dumb poll

but i respect everyones comments

Well im in a Christian band and I am a Born Again Christian (as well as all the other members). Firstly not all Christian bands are three cord songs about how much they love God. Any of you guys know P.O.D, Zao, Project 86, Blindside? They dont have wussy lyrics and there music is put together really well. Also U2 are Christians and they sing about God and lots of people still love them (Christain and not). Our band is not scared of turning people of by preaching and talking about God. Plus if you love music it shouldnt matter if you listen to Christian music or not.

wow I never knew that about U2, but they're alright

ahh dude, those bands DO have wussy lyrics, i dont think we need to relive POD's "alive" *shudders*. As for Bono, doesnt he regularly take trips to africa to do the whole "here have some food" thing but then tries to get contraceptives banned as well? I smell conundrum.

heh heh heh.

...and anyway, you can only be a cool christian if you're Irish, Black, or Gram Parsons.... And that's how U2 get away with it.... (Although, I personally think they suck ass like the rest of them)

http//:p.o.d_suck_ass.org ]

Personally i dont give a rats arse if one or every member of a band was Christian, just as long as they had talent and they play decent enough music. and they keep there fans happy.

^^yeah i agree with this guy.

we had this christian group some and proform at our school and they were really cool. it wasnt all about how much the loved god. and one of my best friends are christian and hating a band just 'cause they're christian would be like me hating her 'cause she is...

If no inkling of their "faith" whatsover became apparent in their music I would still like them.
Maybe the poll should be more like "if a band had a satinist or a Kloo Klucks Klan member but this dident change their music would you still listen to their it."

Music simpley is what it is. You either like or you don't. It doesn't matter if the artist is Christian or not. I know people who absolutley love Engelbert Humperdink, I can't stand him. Does that mean it's crap? No, but it is to me.

so im music?

that is bullshit yyrkoon,
nobody likes engleburt.
you are lying

you're the liar here, christianity.
