Old dog, New Tricks

Heard the song by band Red Drum called 'No Cross on the Crossroads'
on b today and was surprised to find out Jeremy Eade was behind it. Now I for 1 was firmly of the opinion that Garageland were total crap but this song is really good. What gives - any theories?

Forums: NZ Music,

old garageland is fantastic. he still has all the songwriting/lyrical elements that garageland had, he just has a different sound.

Well, Maybe finger pops was OK but the vast majority of Garageland output that I came across was very average - just saying that I detect an edge in this song that in my view was never apparent in previous efforts - and not just the lo-fi production.

I don't know anything about Garageland or Jeremy Eades - but I think a musicians 'output' is of course going to change as time goes on. They grow up, they have different experiences, are influenced by different things and sometimes hone certain skills as well - like everyone.
I love seeing artists grow like that - its so much nicer than watching someone try and cash in on the same formula over and over until no one has any respect for them.
Thats my two cents.

Agree but it doesn't happen very often in my experience - that's why this is an interesting development

I reckon it does actually. EG. Simon McLaren moving from Loves Ugly Children (who I never liked) to doing his Sleepers Union thing. Or Che Fu from Supergroove to Che Fu....
There must be more.
Maybe my statement is too bold...

whoa there their first album in '96 was good....
