by the way this is for a case study on one of the papers i'm doign at uni..so dont think i'm a perv trying to get a thrill out of reading your personals. I'm trying to figure out how we communicate online...
No but seriously (and please note the use of the "reply to") button:
I started using Internet Relay Chat by accident when I was 16 - I clicked something on an xtra page and up popped NS Chat and I was like "wow, this is weird but kind of cool" and within a week I was hooked. I wasn't exactly looking for friendships or relationships or whatever, but cliches developed, as they do, and I was inspired to make my own monstrosity of a comic sans webpage in publisher. I ended up meeting a whole bunch of really cool people who I'm still friends with to this day, and I had some IRC crushes, but nothing developed from them.
Then, because I had a better webpage by that stage, people started emailing me about it, so I met more people, and then I started The Breast Club, which was a page'o scans from random strangers, and met even more people, just because they'd email me, and then we'd end up instant messaging and that. I slept with people i met online, but most of them were after friendships/relationships had developed.
The reason I started posting on NZm was because I was doing research into a feature story I was writing, and that was just such a positive experience that i kept coming back. Eventually I met a couple of people from here because I liked their posts and/or their posting style, and I'd consider them to be my friends. Oh and of course htere's all those illict relationships I'm having with other posters, but that's by the by.
Since pop ups exist, I browse but thats about it...its pretty fun & 'brave' of others to display their faces on the net but then again thats the essence of finding someone who is true cos you so know that they're genuine. I dont anyway but I'd prob try it out if I was single enough.
FACT did you know that america spent over 4 million on dating services online/.... just imagine all the KFC outlets you could give to poor starving countries..haha
ummmm... well i originally started visitin NZM cos ma frend sed it was kool so i gave it a shot, but also, i think that probably i go on cos its a good way of getting to know people as frends and there's no awkward "hi im so-and-so, what are you into?" kinda thing, you just join in a convo or sumfin... dus that help at all? good luck with ur paper, btw.
I don't really look at online as a place where I get new relationships ... although if anyone's interested that's cool! :)
But really, I've met maybe 3 people from online stuff ever ... (I'm talking about where we agreed a time etc to get together and do something) ... they haven't really gone particularly badly or particularly well ... I just think there's stuff you can't tell about people online that you can in person, so that's where I prefer to meet people (and I'm talking about friends on the main, not romantic stuff).
haha - true... i guess some peckers can be a bit fiendish tho.. and not the kind of thing you want to see before breakfast.. but im a hetro male.. so what would i know.... - joanna?
It depends on the before breakfast context - I mean, if there's a fella walking around nekkid cooking for you, that's great, but I wouldn't hit the porn before breakfast - unless I hadn't slept, I guess.
(Did I just get asked for expert advice? That rocks. I intend to become a sex writer when i grow up. Grant Stoddard is my role model and current Internet Celebrity Crush)
Not always, one friend of mine introduced us to an absolute stunner. He had to break up with her after 2 weeks because all she wanted to do was blow jobs.
Stink eh?
Now she gets paid for it at a place in town.
QUESTION-so has any one actually met someone in real life while talking to them online? and what do you consider online dating?-like you could be real shady in be a hoe in real life, but on line your devoted to one online person.......
but i have met some people in real life that i had been talkin to and had known online for a while
(and e-friend you could call them). It was funny cause one person i met had this twin sister that was going out with one of my best mates at the time.
But there are some people i know online that i would like to meet, generally cause i have known them online for 2-3 years. Got to know through a couple of online games i used to play. But i'm talkin about from a gaming community where they have LANS and meet ups all the time and a number of my friends visit that place.
With NZM i have known only one person here in real life, and don't really talk to anyone either. So i don't think i would want to meet anyone here even though it seems a number of people know/have met each other here.
i myself no longer go for online dating places (tried it once and they turn out completely different from that they are) i prefer brooding in local pubs and waitin for a chick to come chat.
that was how i met my last girlfriend, trouble was she buggerd off back to her hometown without even telling me. this was 5 years ago. so much for teenage romance.
//i prefer brooding in local pubs and waitin for a chick to come chat.
Aha, the mouse trap method, what are you using for cheese?
I've got a few mates who employ these methods & seem to have the same success you do.
Do you brood next to the door of the ladys toilets?
There is always the drunken lurch & grope, this seems to render a similar rate of success, but does have the benefit of slightly better odds in that there is a certain type of girl who this will appeal to.
What ever happened to, decide what you want - go get it.
Suprise?, one of my (plutonic) girlfriends turned around & decked/dropped a guy for doing just that.
As I mentioned earlier, this will only appeal to a certain type of girl & the foggier the beer googles the higher the margin of error.
Nice tits, is a good call, very rarely.
Case in point, A mate went into a bar & asked for a beer, the serving wench asked him "how do you want that" (pointing at the glasses & handles), he replied "trickling down your naked breasts".
He took her out after closing & they dated for a couple of weeks...
(note, use of "serving wench" description apt & appropriate)
The last time a stranger said "hey, nice tits" to me, I thanked him and said that I'd grown them myself, and then my friend took it upon herself to get rid of him since he'd been bugging us for ages by screaming "OH SO YOU DON'T LIKE MINE THEN? WELL YOU CAN JUST FUCK OFF" at him.
Face-to face contact definitely. Animal magnetism.
That said, in reading some of the comments in these forums I think there are definitely some attractive spririts posting...(some stinkers too)
Would it help shy people? maybe.
It may help a few friends of mine who are a little slow at getting amoungst it.
Oh my stars, I think I'm in love.

Dammit, I'm too tall for him though. And I guess you'd have to have a pretty loose definition of what counts as "social drinking".
irreman/ or anyone-- so would you rather the face-to face contact rather than the emotions feelings tied to verbal words online?. is it harder to tell if someone is interested in you for your personality rather than looks? doesn't online relationships help deface your physical appearance and essentuate your character...it would help shy people wouldn't it? i dunno!
A sad but funny story
