i can probably name all of them as my favs but ill keep it to a portion.

hm- ok- i admit he had a few good songs- but he is VASTLY- & i do mean VASTLY- overrated- he never put out anything which compares to marcus garvey or garveys ghost-. & those guys are playing somewhere near you soon- ¿i think?- luci said she was gonna go & vid it for me

but yknow ¿bob marley?- his jah rastafarai peaceloving public persona makes me laugh- he was a nasty- violent little man- he wasnt a lover- he was a fucker- chris blackwell is a clever man- he suckered you all- & youre still believing the myth he created

my apologies for any bubbles popped & boners harshed

o- & by the way- im not saying this to be contrario- i do only write what i know to be true- maybe theres gonna be a reaction- but my purpose in the above primarily springs from the former- tho id be lying if i said i didnt enjoy an argument- intellectual- emotional- or a mix of the 2

you can fool some people sometime, but you can't fool all the people all the time

haha, sometimes i wonder if the social element of music (or the cult... or something...) isn't worth acknowledging as part of someone's greatness or impact... after all, our opinions of music are shunted around by all manner of (dare i say it) subjective and unscientific phenomena.

reception theory suggests that we would necessarily treat bob's music differently from, say, the congos. oh well.

i tried to get some workmates who are into marley to check out early studio one recordings and they were really upset. blackwell had to re-record them with less bass for british radio to consider them acceptable for playing. :) i find that endlessly funny, given how cool music trends are so dominated by bass-heavy dance styles now. maybe. outside q magazine, anyway.

this posting brought to you by the letter m for merlot and the number 9 for cheap bottle. :)

That's true in part. I know that The Wailers recorded their debut Catch A Fire in Jamaica, and when Chris Blackwell decided that the album should be released internationally he overdubbed the original tracks with lead guitar and synth/clavinet parts to make them more accessible for British and American audiences. Marley and his band approved of the new additions. And really, the overdubs aren't that obtrusive and really do add to the overall sound of the album.
The recently released "deluxe" edition of Catch A Fire is a 2-disc set including both the orginal Jamaican album and the revamped international version. Both are great in their own ways: the Jamaican is rawer, sounding almost like a folk recording, whereas the international is more polished and sounds more like Bob Marley as the world would later know him.

lolz oh sorry bro. yup yup your intitled to your opnion but cuzz come on hes the man you mighten like him but its like this, whats the point in putting down what some one believes in ???? im not hattin on you ( cauz i dont hate on people ) but whatz wrong with being or believing a certain christ????? you say hes a violent little man well therez probably some truth in that, but here, were i come from he putz a lotta faith and happiness to the coast,(and faah thia aint nothing wrong with that big upz to the man)whether it may be through the pointz hez put across to what hes accompished or even just through his lyrics from the old to the young here most people have some kind of respect for the man. i dont know wheither you believe in god but most people dont know what to believe but at least they cna say i beleive in jah ( and if they wonna say that then fine ) and plus who am i or even you to question some bodyz belief ???

well thanx for the opinion ( lolz i really mean that too ) and i leave you on this note : hia on the coast hes put more smilez and positive thoughts in to the locals than hiz done the oppisite. so good on him.

re: the Maaori thing, I thought this was interesting, on Katchafire's site:

"Back in the late 70s and early 80s, NZ was one of the biggest-selling territories in the world for reggae and, in particular, Bob Marley. Per capita, New Zealanders bought more Marley records and tapes than anywhere else in the world! And NZ Maori were his biggest fans, buying 7 out of 10 units."

katchafire are mintaz live. i didn't know they could be so mesmorizing. Less is more... im lov'n it

¿mintaz or muntaz?- ¿mesmerizing or- uh- well- yawnerizing?

did you know that bob marley was a wife beater and continuoulsy cheated on her throughout his music history. but after his death she says she still loves him and is thankful for what he did....hmmm let me guess. cos now she's getting all his money as his sole beneficiary....women and love.. and raggae..what a mix?

I certainly did not know that for someone whos not so much into rasta but love the aspect of the man himself. From what I've known to be true & I have read many things on this man he was a peace advocate & he was the sole movement of 2 opposing political leaders (or groups) putting their hands & heads together hence making the song "ONE LOVE". So even though he may have beat on his wife perhaps its not something we know of heavily & for everyone on earth..everyone has differnt lives, values, morals, lifestyles & ways of living life itself..We cannot judge him for what we think or have heard but basically from what we know. This for me would be his true spirit in song & the quality of his music being spread that makes it truely unbelievable to hear/read of such things but nevertheless I wouldn't exactly say dissagree because every person who is on the 'golden chair' has undercover lives that no one really should know about & its called human nature of different cultures & different aspects to life. Personally I dont feel it but I can believe it to be true. You can be a horrible person but in real life your heart speaks more that your actions.

(Rephrase for 1 minor spelling error)
You can be a horrible person but in real life your heart speaks more than your actions.

you say that bob marley beat on his mumsey/wife. well hey as much as id deni it and wouldnt like to have it done. many of the polynesian people have been involved or bought up around domestic violence. we ( or maybe just the people ive been bought up with ) have known to hate on people ova seaz cause they dont know what goez on in our family homez. probably in sum fucked up way people can relate to the aspects of how his home life was and how he did things and/or resolved to violence.

r u a polynesian ? to the comment of your heart speaking volumes...i dojnt know if i agree with that one..cos if it did speak volumes and they were strong enough then you would consider changing your actions huh?

jus wanna say, that bob marleys best song is 'redemption song' its so cool, and with the nifty lil acoustic gtar bit at the start
