Kiwi individuality

All of the above

Can I say none of the above but anything as long is was born & made on land.
Now thats kiwi individuality.

i so agree. u cant name a specific thing that makes it nzmusic. bleve me ive tried. we hada stupid english essay bout it. it is simply nz that makes nz music nz music

constantly searching for sentiments to conform with one's limited vocabulary, rather than developing one's vocabulary in order to keep pace with one's expanding sentiments --- that to me typifies "nz" music; at its worst it wears this as a badge of achievement, at its best it overturns this stultifying inarticulateness boldly

special uniqueness?
you have to delve way past your c4 homegrown your real groove your chain record stores your corporate radio stations to find any special uniqueness.
the majority of the population have no idea where to start and would probably continue happily with their deluded ideas of whats original, unique,or individual.
you just have to watch the other shows on c4 or listen to songs from non nz bands to hear the remarkeable similarities.

Dont be a Hater :)

there is no special uniqueness.

show me one thing a new zealand artist has done, that hasn't already been done elsewhere

bar subject matter

I totally believe that kurt cobain came over to NZ in the late 80s and went back to seattle ripping off that ChCh/ Dunedin sound. We invented grunge dudes!!!!!

that would be courtney love dude

i watched a thing on ole courtney the other night ... i think on e..... was babysitting...
anyway i have a lot of sympathy for her now. i had thought that she was a husband-killing biatch but now... plus i really really really like her song ' but julian im a little bit older than you'

Ok...so Nirvana ripped off Mudhoney...

Not to mention Pixies, Husker Du, Black Flag, Meat Puppets, and archaic post-punk stuff like the Raincoats. And they created something damn near perfect of their own. Nothing wrong with credible influences.

doesnt matter whats good about it NZ musics the best ever.
I just moved to aus they know nothin about good music

Opression from no-one? What in the hell are you talking about?

Yeah NZ music does nothing completely new, but neither does anyone else anywhere. Is that such a bad thing? Isn't it a good idea to start from a base of something that's already really good and build from that? Makes sense to me.

Are you serious? NZ music does all kindsa new things! Ever listened to The Shocking Pinks? Pluto? Die!Die!Die!? The Mint Chicks? And they're just mainstream bands! Open your ears man...

they're mainstream??

Maybe Pluto sort of almost are, they were introduced to a world of meatheads by opening for Muse. Otherwise the other three are pretty marginal. Mint Chicks are known by a handful of (well-adjusted, non musically-obsessed) people I know as 'that crazy band'. And I wouldn't think any of them know The Shocking Pinks or Die!Die!Die!. All good bands though, best examples of idiosyncratic NZ artists too.

theyre mainstream to

underground

My answer to this question would be Dei Hamo and the Misfits of Science. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAhAHAHAHA
Did you hear that? I made a joke!
Nz music is no different from music being played elsewhere in the world. What a sucky poll
