Musical equipment to Australia

Whats the best way of getting 3 x guitars, 1 x 100 watt Marshall amp
1 x practice amp and 1 x computer to Australia? How do touring bands do it? Who can I contact? I would love some feedback. Cheers, Betty

Forums: NZ Music,

hi there, my bands doing a move to melbourne at the end of the year, with a lot more gear than that, i'm lucky with the whole moving thing coz i'm a store manager and have contacts in the freighting industries, but i'll give ya some info.

Try a freighting company like austral cargo (09 272 8025) or Mondiale, don't know what they would charge you as i would have gotten a rate based on what my company get charged, but there rates are generally pretty good. they'll need as much info as you can give them and you'll definately want premium level insurance (about $350 for $10,000) which covers any loss or damage. information being how much weight and the total cubic metres of your freight, an approximate will do for startes, you'll probably want to find a pallet and some shrink wrap, or if you can't they will charge you if you need your goods packaged by them. And if you want it delivered to an address in oz the postcode of the suburb would help in costs related to delivering the goods. Delivering to and from the airports will incur an extra couple hundred dollars.. it's not too as much of a mission as i'm making it sound like theres just heaps to consider, give them a call and they'll guide you.

anyway i hope that helps.

by the way theres 2 freight options, airfreight and sea freight (which is a hell of a lot cheaper and only takes 4 days to a week) and i wouldn't go with DHL or UPS unless you want to pay crazy dollars
