I doubt we'd ever get a chance to hear anything that isn't controlled by "The Man" so what's the point?
the producer - who i spoke to about this last month - said they're gonna go quite full on for getting as many 'up and coming' artists on performing live, meaning you don't necessarily have to be in the charts to get a live slot on TOTP. all you have to do is not be totally unlistenable shit and be in Auckland on a friday afternoon for the recording.
i think it's a great idea personally, cos it means artists can get saturday evening TV2 audience coverage without having to have a stupidly expensive video or a major record label plugger dangling incentives.

Alex Behan could barely host that Pepsi Chart show as it is. There's nothing wrong with him but, here's a better idea: Why don't we put Johnny Knoxville in charge of the Government and he can put Britney Spears in charge of TVNZ and, subsequently, turn it into a 24/7 porn-only channel. That sounds much more fun than Alex and the TOTP tour bus wailing on through NZ.

But acidess has a point. Maybe we should watch it b4 we trash it. And it will be a great way for NZ bands to get exposure outside of the Rockquest and smoky bars and pubs. Like Falter, for instance. Lots of potential but nowhere to vent it.

I've watched it and something tells me that most of the peformances (Blink 182, Britney, N.E.R.D ) were taken from the U.K version. The Incubus live bit was NZ, i'm pretty sure. I think it's good that we have our own version as it showcases our own fantastic talent. But if it's our own version then why have a large part of the show taken from the U.K version? Although, i could be wrong and TOPT NZ did fly in Britney, Blink and N.E.R.D for the taping of the show but i somehow doubt it.
