Ha! touche.No i admit i was a wee bit tired and as always very emotional when i gave my 2 cents worth.The Datsuns,The Mint Chicks,Pluto-(before they needed more more money for the ***** fund and sold Hey Little to TV1) various experimental electronica/jazz fusion/breaks/soul/(add your music genre here) outfits are keeping the dream alive-just.But i still say we blow up the lower half of the South Island so I never have to hear a new Dunedin band again!Just think the mere act alone would raise the New Zealand talent quota by .5!It would be preferable that this act of terroism was done while The Exponents are in Dunedin during their next Uni Comeback Tour-What the heck is it with Otago Uni students and the God awful Exponents?!?! Now there was one pre mid Nineties band that makes all the new crap sound good...........rave.........rant.........

Meow you are correct - good nz music practically dissapeared from 2000 onwards. While you could listen to predictable replies like " you need to open your mind - theres plenty of good bands out there you just need ot make the effort" the simple reality from the point of view of someone who shares a similiar taste in nz music (er, me) is that there's nothing 'under the surface' just slightly more amatuer versions of the same thing. The quality of guitar musicin paritcular has taken a dive. You just ain't ever going to get another Skeptics, Bailterspace or JPSE. Flying Nun's mangement attitude sux at the moment, whats the point to their future existence?

YOu souldn't force yourself to like something becaseu it's 'new nz music' . Flying Nun music was cool because the songs where cool, the music - at least from the bands people remember - was totally off the planet, like nothing else. The simple fact is that nobody writes music like that anymore ie with total indiffenece to it's commercial potential. Everything is made to sell to someone, some market, or fit into some genre, some crap - thats' how nz music has 'moved on' or 'grown'.

Maybe 'back in the day' but I'd say he's changed as a person - most people do evolve. Just like the music scene.
