Well I dunno about you lot but I saw something pretty special last night. I saw all my friends who spent the last 6 years on these films - working 7am to 8pm, 6 days a week, spending endless sunny days glued to a computer screen out in miramar - I just saw them pick up 11 of the film industry's highest accolades for all their hard work. I couldn't be more proud.
Yay for the cast and crew. Roll those 10 minute credits!!

Yeah, my mother's best friend made a lot of the pottery in the movie, and she helped him out - it's like everyone in wellington is one degree away from the movie, and maybe that's why it's so special to so many people.

"the people at chicago and the port nicholson yacht club - its time to party!" - that quote just made me grin!
the best part about yesturday was the fact that all the kiwis that went on stage were just so natural! such typical kiwi blokes [and women of course!] it made me so proud to be a kiwi seeing them get up in front of all those glam kings and queens and pretty much say to them "MAAAAYYTEEE!" - luvvin it!
BRING ON THE PARADE!!!
so good when Steven Spielberg got all ...
so good when Steven Spielberg got all excited and said 'Clean Sweep!'. he was following the count. that makes me smile ... means film geeks will now be able to be recognised by the mainstream funders when it comes to fantasy and sci fi. and there are a lot of great books of those two genres out there that deserve to be rendered on the big screen.
thought Lucas was slowing banging the nail into the coffin of sci fi and fantasy, but thanks to Weta/3ft6 and the Wingnutters, it's been proved that you can make a good effects-heavy film and it looks good and realistic and not overblown and flat. (though, of course, i'm still gonna go to Episode III, dammit)

i rooly liked the recent Dune ...
i rooly liked the recent Dune miniseries with William Hurt in them. wonderful space-opera feel to them. nice & close to the book, with some clever rewrites/adapations of certain characters. the second one, Children of Dune was even better, but that's because they made Leto Jr into a character with compassion, which he aint in the book (he's a little smartarse in the book).
