NZ Idol Tonight

Heya,
I know a lot of you (especially Sam) are reality Tv haters - and I can understand why. But anyway, NZ Idol is on @ 7.30 tv2 tonight, so make an effort to watch it and keep an eye out 4 Jessie, then if u think she should go through, vote 4 her :) and no this isn't a 'Filipo Saipani' type campaign, just wanna raise the awareness and u can decide 4 urself if u think she deserves ur votes or not :)
Go Jess!

Forums: NZ Music,

im watching it so i can vote for her!!! i saw her at the rockquest a few years ago i think and she really impressed me go jessie!

Wicked :D

I like your attitude!

why thank you!

i missed it... how do i vote for jessie?

Yeah my nephew who's around the same age as me said he saw her too at the rockquest & said she is marvelous..He's a music lover so he has taste. I watched her last night..not sure about the song choice considering the judges n all & the pop sense of the comp but hey she did awesome. My "Invisible" votes are for her, definitely Luke & Dave..as well as that dude Micheal..he was pretty good..too in his own rock way..

good stuff anjelus
you're a loyal friend
go jessie!!

She had my vote from the start. But the two bigs guys, and the younger guy did pretty well tonight too.

I found the last guy boring. Sure he can sing pop but his voice is too weak and won't last long enough to make a career with.

The judges said "this is a pop competition" but Jessie can do pop as well. I'd rather have someone that can sing classical music really well and do pop, instead of only being able to pull off crappy half-assed pop songs

Fair call. I'd love to see Jessie go all-out pop and bring on the attitude she has offstage. I think it was just the nature of the song she sang tonight that may have been restrictive. It was beautiful, just not pop

thank u for mentioning my opinion anjelus.

as u all know very well i stay well away from these types of shows for reason you already well know.

You should watch it anyway Luci..it is about music..and hey (about the looks thing..i hope it wasn't personal..)..you should watch it..I really recommend you do.

lc - youve got to be joking. apart from the obvious reason why i abstain from watching this half-baked show, (spoilt, middle-class attention-hogs clogging up the camera) It also diverts attention away from Real Bands who are struggling to make it on the scene. but again it begs the question. "does new zealand have to prove how globalised and western it is by showing a halfbaked reality Show?".

ahhh well my 2c

..okay..okay..its just that it makes it more interesting when you talk about it amongst others cos you know what one another is talking about..okay then..you win. Half Baked aye..nice description of it..I guess a lot of things are half baked these days. So hows Wellington coming along...

//"does new zealand have to prove how globalised and western it is by showing a halfbaked reality Show?"

You do get that it was a New Zealander, a Mr Jonathan Dowling, who started off the whole Pop Stars tv show thing and is therefore somewhat responsible for the Pop Idol concept, right?

don't you get it that it was a new zealander who split the atom

one of the beautiful ironies of this world, a great new zealand scientist unlocks the 'secrets' of the atom and also splits it, progressing to one of the most horrific weapons of all time.. and we're nuclear free.

I'm glad we are nuclear free and hope that we are forever, infact I hope more countries take up a nuclear free stance in the future. Totally off topic, sorry.

ive learnt a valuable lesson today - discussing a topic WITHOUT using the terms "Rice Field", "Forced Labour", "Whippings with electric fence fire", "Re-education", "Gunpoint", "Bowl of rice a day" can yeild positive results from everyone. - ahh those term are now no longer more than a historical metaphor.

// It also diverts attention away from Real Bands who are struggling to make it on the scene. but again it begs the question.

Meanwhile, the latest NZ On Air funding round has been announced, giving plenty of struggling "real" bands a bit of assistance to take bigger steps.

//I'm glad we are nuclear free..

i'm not..
nuclear weapons for sure
but don't even get me started on the obvious benefits of nuclear power...
one reasonably small power plant to power the entire country..
instead of fucking all our rivers and lakes with massive unsightly power schemes....
certainly an avenue worth exploring, if not implementing at some stage

but thats an entire issue in its own right, and nothing to do with NZ idol of course

nuclear free??? maybe i should start a thread about this.

I did vote for her, in the interests of keepign the competition interesting, but someone needs to shoot her stylist.

When she comes home I'll try and work on that with her..lets just keep the votes rolling so she gets through to the next round!!!!

What an awesome friend you are. Totally sensational loyalty there. Way to go. You'll get far in life. And as for Jessie..I dont know what the stylist was thinking when she had too many pearls on her nect..but otherwise she looked great..

now which was one was she??
that chick in the red, Gemma?? was crap

ha I just learnt that Gemma chick is from Invers, it was in the paper this morning

She did really bad but according to herself she did really well..I dont think she realised how badly she came across on screen but otherwise honestly wrong selection in song & also she could of done a great idol cos she so had the look of one..dont talk too soon people..the decisions are tonight so way to go people...maybe anothe Filipo outcome.. i didn't vote for him but i definitely wanted him to go through cos of his humbleness as a person..My gut feelings go with Luke, Dave & maybe Micheal. Jessie has a good chance with her exposure due to the first audiion so its all about faith on who makes it to the next round..

were you asking if she meant gemma? because she did say jessie....

no I wasn't

//now which was one was she??
that chick in the red, Gemma??

oh woops, i must have been imagining those question marks.

I like the incubus guy.

He's pretty cool but has only 1 type of voice though. Dont know if he could make it to the next stage with different approaches but who knows they can only get better & better..
The men did really well & so did Nga. She had a beautiful voice.

I didn't, at all.

I know the guy Michael, hes in a band near my region of NZ, his voice is alright but the only thing good about him is his showmanship. He defionately doesnt have one of the best voices in the country, but can sell what he has, rather well. Thats really the flaw in these types of shows, its focused on your voice AND how you sell it. Shouldnt a show about singing be... only about singing???

nope, it's not just about singing, it's about the whole package - looks, talent, showmanship etc.

yeah, thats what i mean, it takes the point away from the music, being a good musician doesnt involve being able to dance and personally i care more about the music than how the people move to it.

It's NOT a show about singing though, it's a show about entertainment.

if so, why arent there midgets riding unicycles? thats entertainment
NZ Idol is singing.

//if so, why arent there midgets riding unicycles? thats entertainment

Pitch that concept to Touchdown; I think you have a winner. In the meantime, I find NZ Idol endlessly entertaining, and all the people bitching about it obviously do too.

if it was just about singing i don't think you'd be able to see the people that were singing, they'd probably be just stuck in a recording studio.

Exactly, who wants to see the singers? I'd much rather watch Rob and Fab in their bike shorts, shoulder pads and dreads dancing around than the middle aged ugly people who actually voiced the songs.

//they'd probably be just stuck in a recording studio.
shouldnt NZs best singer be in the studio and not on tv?

tough luck she didn't get in

Yeah. Im thoroughly dissapointed that she didn't get in with the group she was with (Jess) & also Nga..I felt sorry for her cos when she & Dave were up for who was up next..she was nervous already & looked like she knew it was over for her cos Dave did a superb performance. I so knew Luke would make it & I really think he'll be in the top 3 for sure..As for Micheal..well when I come to think of it..he's not going to make it through unless votes are on his side..The 3 that I predicted definitely made it through & it was of course the judges call as well..Im sorry for Jess cos she could have taken the Idol position with her witty pretty looks & carefree go-wit-da-flow attitude..Best of luck..and once again as said many times before..may the best person win!

but isnt there a wildcard show???

there is hope!

I hope so..so does the wildcard only apply to those within the 24 right?? Well if so..my votes up for Jessie, Nga at the moment..lets see how next weeks show gives in..Did you's enjoy last nights..i so knew those 3 would be selected & I predicted well that Jessie would of came after only judging on how their performances went..such as song selections & support..oh well..Wild Card is depending on it..
As for Inangaro..well not being mean but her attitude may need to go..she did have a beautiful smile I must admit..cos I was thinking negative of that one only cos my friend who was in the other round said she had a sniggering attitude..but hey do I know her? No. So yeah..Im glad for the top 3 for last nights show..fantastic stuff.

i thought sam, the guy that sung unchained melody was great.

hehe. my sister thought he was hott ( her words, not mine )!

his clothes looked great, that stylist did a great job with him. so sorta old school/retro.

i reckon jessie is a definite contender for one of the wildcard shows, it seems as if fiona really wants her in the top 10.

I'm really not negative about NZ Idol. Fine, it's about entertainment rather than pure musical talent. OK, so my favourite isn't always going to win, and up against hordes of younger viewers I feel like an old fogie already. And fine, now the judges are present in a mentoring rather than critiqueing role.

But I struggle to comprehend how the fuck Michael (hope that's the Incubus guys name) got a whopping 25% of the vote. This has single-handedly turned me against the public having any form of say in a democracy. I am now a fan of dictatorship. My dictatorship, to be precise.

His pitch was pretty damn good. However, the tone was awful and reminded me how it really sucks vocally to be a small whiney white guy surrounded by big Islanders/Maoris. So, it must have been the other aspects that got him home..... like song choice... errrr, yeah a song that really doesn't extend many amateur vocalists is a great choice. Style perhaps? If I can get 25% of the vote by slapping on a few skater hip chains and getting my hair so-scruffy-it's-way-too-styled count me in!

Ah well, the guy did better than I would've, and better than many would've. But getting not only in the final selection, but winning with a large proportion of votes against some singers of real talent (such as Jessie who so obviously has an incredibly fine tuned voice) makes me negative about the whole NZIdol business. Viva la Dictatorship!
