top of the pops

would seem that our charts have enough local music to warrant our very own top of the pops
it's going to air late march

Forums: NZ Music,

Which channel?

I am assuming 2, one of the things talked about in the artical was once recordins of bands were made in the TOTPs formate they could then be used in other parts of the world.

Wow that sounds BAAAAD.
Sounds like we might be seeing a lot of musicians on the score..

(Just to enlighten anyone..BAAAD as in O-sum!!

// one of the things talked about in the artical

Where was this article?

It sounds like great news, and a sign that the New Zealand music industry is healthy enough that it can support this.

Awesome. So it will be all "pop" or will they throw in some other stuff there too?

totp doesn't only play pop music, but you'll never see a metal band on it, the closest would be MetallicA

wonder how many overseas bands will turn up

I hope heaps but then..how funny that they would buy other people to come into our country to take part but not fork any money for the REAL musicians here in NZ who want to get out there..in a way NZ is kinda WHACKED>

we could do a swap- mareko hdu scribe salmonella drab and lil lcrassmo for a soho beggar and his dog- wed get the better deal

spot on

//a sign that the New Zealand music industry is strong
a point made durning the item, it was on national radio yesterday (friday) morning, they then went on to talk about the nzmusic industry in general and talked about SXSW as well and fade out playing "little"

some of you seem to think that TOTP is "live" ie they will be bringing over artists from round the world, .....
TOTPs is NOT live it is lip sync
and it is like Mcdonalds, ie you can walk into any Micky Dees and not know which part of the world you are in, the sets are the same in every country there it only LOOKs like people are playing the same venue.

NB I am only shareing the news these comment in no way reflect the opinions of Aka

the "performers" (id rather call them that than artists) are all Robots smacked out of there heads on ritalin, the hosts, whacked out on ludes and the audience brainless mindfarts who should be doing something more constructive than watching no-talent lameoids prancing round like monkeys on Prozac while lip-syncing to a pre-programmed peice of software.

//some of you seem to think that TOTP is "live" ie they will be bringing over artists from round the world, .....
TOTPs is NOT live it is lip sync

crap
when datsuns appeared on top of the pops in UK they didn't film it in a studio in Waimate
they went to the UK, whether it is lip synced or not is irrelevant
they still caught a plane and made their appearance in the UK

so all you're saying and taking no responsibility for is -our TOTP will suck because noone will come here

so you claim no international bands will come for the nz version and since the USA TOTP has just been canned by BBC America
does that mean there will be more or less no American Acts??????

Some artists don't lip sync, some do - it depends on how much time they have, the artists' talent and also I'unno what else, but there's definately been some live performances thrown in there, as well as people like Nirvana lipsyncing deliberately out of time.

If there was an NZ version made, they'd probably get copies of international artists performing overseas in the same format, much like Pepsi Chart did, there's no way internationals would come here.

//TOTPs is NOT live it is lip sync

next time how about - "he's NOT really flying, they used a blue screen!"

//there's no way internationals would come here.

so why bother making a show
why can't we just watch the british version like some people already do?

I think the McDonalds metaphor is relevant considering McDonalds is in decline in NZ
vote with your remote

the point is more kiwi acts would be on a tv show, either in new zealand or not. .. the datsuns performed in britain because they were popular in britain, - to go on top of the pops in the uk or anywhere else you have to be 'top of the pops' i.e sucessful , and in new zealand many of the artist in the charts are kiwi artists, so why not have our own i spose....and then if any of our band did attain sucess in ol' blighty, they could play their NZ totp performance on the british version, thus saving time and money for everyone involved...

so what your saying is:

no need to make our own show,
we're too dumb for that
instead give TOTP more money by buying their franchise,
and we can have the same performances we already see plus some nz ones
which the BBC can profit of
smart

obviously if an act is doing well overseas
they're going to need to go there anyway
you expect John Peel to interview a band in Parnell by satellite?

why do you think American TOTP has been taken off the air?

i never said it was a good idea, or that it was good for new zealand music, just explaining how the concept would probably work...

yes kiwi bands will still go to the UK or US, you are hardly going to alter the path of your career just to appear on totp - it's just a TV franchise like any other TV franchise , and it makes a whole lot of sense if you own a TV franchise to expand it to areas of the globe that have the potential to enhance the franchise as a whole

no shit, wow, thats awesome. and they'll call it 'top of the pops' and have the same format as the uk?? only nz music also?

don't they have different hosts every week on UK TOTP? I don't who they are (but most of them seem to be Scottish) but I think they may be local celebrities. They could do something similar here, but have local musos presenting and not someone like Mike King or, um, Waverley from Shorters.
Or am I completely wrong?

Yes, you are very wrong, because Waverley is hot, and more of her on tv would be a good thing.

wooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why do we need this ??????????

scatly clad young women...

//scatly clad young women...

look jbomb, that's just filthy
we don't need that sort of gutter talk round here

nooooooo... has no one seen the british totp? you all act like it would be good to have more mindless pop music on tv...

TOP OF THE POPS IS VILE FILTH

ONLY IF YOU CHOOSE TO ACTUALLY *WATCH* TELEVISION.

or happen to have your PC 3 footsteps away from your TV Set and even with the curtain shut ive can still hear this no-talent filth being blasted away, even listening to my shit on the headphones is always met with a "Turn it Down", nah! i want my metal shit to filter away that harmful pre-packaged b/s from the TV, i dont want to hear one drop of the TV....know what im sayin?

after a careful study into this thread, the analysis begs the question: Why does NZ have to regurgitate a half-baked UK lack-of-any-form-of-musical-ability program? Can New Zealand afford such trash?? Why is it that these corrupt and vile western imperialist media are shoving such vile filth down our throats??

Surely such filth can be counteracted - Brave Bogans setting up sub-pages on there websites ranting about how much they hate Pop-Music Shows, oh yes, im sure it will be a 'Number One Hit' (Pun)

//Why is it that these corrupt and vile western imperialist media are shoving such vile filth down our throats??

market research has proved there are enough dickheads who'll watch it

as i say christianity - blame the corrupted imperialist media for this 'market research'

blast their eyes

get over it
dont watch it
star in it
whatever
its just fucking entertainment
like the rest of our lives

Condescend me...

but, out of interest
would a contest consisting of middle aged dudes who are still into there metal, have day jobs, and a cutting wit - strutting there forum prowess on national tv be a better bet?

light years better
