everyone I know on hearing of the sale of the muppets to disney groaned.. including my 11 year old son, "mum they will just stuff it up"
Thank god this is not disney project, it does look interesting, and will probably be on the family to watch list, labyrinth is in the top 5 movies for the folks that live at my house
Mirrormask is not a sequel to Labyrinth. They are using the same production company and stuff.
At least that's the impression I get from Neil's weblog at www.neilgaiman.com .
The main impetus to the film (Dave McKean) did the original sandman covers for Neil.
true..
talk about a false alarm
it's not a sequal at all
the thread just says they want to cash in on the type of success of the labyrinth and dark crystal with their own jizz
OK, someone's comment on Amazon says that 'Outside Over There' wasn't the basis for the movie and there's actually a book called 'Labyrinth'. Oh well. It's still essentially the same basic story.. girl babysitting brother, brother gets whisked away by goblins, she has to go on a quest to find him and finds all kinds of weird things along the way.
Wash out your mouth! Dirty Dancing was DREADFUL, I'm not sure about Footloose, but Labyrinth is magic. When I rewatched 'The Dark Crystal' a couple of years ago, I was amazed at how slow moving it was and it really bored me - I'm suprised at how much I liked it when I was young, wheras no matter how many times I watch 'Labyrinth' I still find new and cool things about it.
I'm praying this will mean a return to puppets and stuff rather than that souless CGI nonsense.
I was also praying last night when I was watching the David Bowie concert on C4 that he would turn to look at the camera and say "I did it all for you, Joanna". But my reception wasn't that good so maybe I missed it.
in the course of my work i had to contact the Jim Henson studio's in LA and discuss his workshops and experiences in London and the person i talked to was the curator of the Jim Henson Archive which struck me as about the best fucken job IN THE WORLD
When i told her this she laughed and said that "yeah, her job was pretty cool"
Now why do these Directors think of these things ages contageous later???
Modern thinking...I dont think so..too slow..running out of ideas..or running into ideas..
haha, ever seen the zefferelli version of romeo and julliet? man that has nothing on the labyrinth...every man in it wears bowie-style tights :S not a pretty sight...
With Brits like Neil Gaiman (Sandman) and Dave McKean (cover art for Sandman and numerous CDs including Fear Factory) behind the helm instead of some money-grabbing American, there are two things we can at least expect from this film:
1. It will be very beautiful - albeit in a strange and dark way
2. Disney/the USA won't ruin it like they ruin almost everything
The only unfortunate things about it are that Jim Henson is dead and Brian Froud doesn't seem to be actively involved. Brian was the designer for Labyrinth and Dark Crystal. We met him at a signing in London on Halloween - he was there with his wife and son. Toby's all grown up now, and must simply hate it when people say to him "you remind me of the babe . . . "
Oh, and neither David Bowie nor his tights will be seen.

Gimme the Dark Crystal any day. :) Or the Maurice Sendak version of the myth 'Labyrinth' was based off. I used to love that book as a kid...

I hope they do something to dissuade David Bowie from wearing tights this time around. Or maybe they could use CGI?
