Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain has 4 votes- amelie has 3- theyre the same film- so amelie has 7 votes- which means it should be at #3

+ you people need to see more films- very few of the best films ever made appear on the list- also- anyone claiming citizen kane the alltime best is gonna get a quick visit from me- luci- i got a 7th dan black in human origami

wow....you just made a good point....
???

¿implying we usually dont?- i reckon either youre right- or youre a glass & a 1/2 of full cream jerk- hmm- i wonder which

Pork chop, pork chop, greasy, greasy, Casablanca beats Citizen Kane fucking easy, easy. Not that I think it's the greatest flick of all times, not even close infact, but then again I do enjoy more than a fair amount of cheese in my flicks.

where's all the road movies... nothing spells classic like a good road movie

//implying we usually dont

no not at all
that's a singular
implying you (just the one of you) usually don't

that was luci- this is lena- give me 1 example--- asshole

just 1?

//that was luci- this is lena- give me 1 example--- asshole

er--- yeh--- just 1--- ¿can you handle it?

¿do you know- to this day i have not seen the original vanishing point?

i haven't seen the remake (vanishing point)
although i have seen that audioslave video where they pay homage/rip off vanishing point..
the original one is the nicest movie to just chill out and watch..
but i always get the wanderlust afterwards

mm whatever happened to like the classics like the exorcist, psycho..? things like that... surely they must be up there as the top movies of all time...even if it is just horror movies... in their time they were pushing the boundaries etc...

But we no longer live in their time.

also- to this day i have not seen the original texas chainsaw massacre- tho i have worked with someone who was able to access some of the police files from the original case ttcm was lifted- apparently psycho & silence of the lambs were lifted from the same

the original is a bit disappointing. It would be good if it was the first slasher flick you saw but it has definitely dated. I thought it was made up and the whole true case thing was false or are you just yanking chains hoping one of the toilets will overflow?

i havent actually seen ttcm... its actually on hire at the moment, sitting downstairs on the kitchen bench... but after what my sister said... i dont think il bother- just go see the remake... supposedly there is a 10minute chase seen where the guy (obviously) chases after the chick who is screaming... its so pathetic that its laughable.. i mean anyone in that situation would know that you Dont go Upstairs! and 2ndly, you Stop Screaming! ...*sigh* old movies... the exorcist was in its own way still shocking tho...

and also- its not the best movies of recent times, its the best movies of ALL time... which means that the age of the movie shouldnt come in to it... if a movie of the past has changed the way movies are made today, influenced a certain genre, or were "masterpieces" in their time, then surely it shouldnt matter that they are old... meaning that they simply shouldnt just be viewed as not as good simply cos they arent as realistic etc...

i think im fighting a pointless battle...

//The original
Cracks me up when they give the old fella a go with that hammer, man.

// also- to this day i have not seen the original texas chainsaw massacre- tho i have worked with someone who was able to access some of the police files from the original case ttcm was lifted- apparently psycho & silence of the lambs were lifted from the same

all based loosely on the serial killer ed gein. Ed made his furniture from human skin and bones, skin for the leather, bones for the structure, they found a bowl made of a human skull, apparently he was an extreme recluse and as well as murdering people for his furniture, he would exhume bodies from the graveyard and take them home for his collection. he was caught in the late 50's and died of cancer in the mid 80's. Perhaps one of the most bizarre things they found in his house was an entire suit made from human skin.

Psycho played on the psychology of eddie, who was obviously quite focussed on his mother, TCM split eddie's personality up into a freakish bloodlusting family.

I've always wanted to see a movie about Albert Fish, although I'm pretty sure that Hannibal Lecter may have some basis in Al. Mr Fish was a very educated gentleman, he murdered his neighbour's daughter and to set his mind at rest, wrote them a letter, saying he had developed a taste for human flesh in china, then went about detailing exactly how he murdered her with the grand finale of "she died a virgin"

make a good story!

Yeah, that letter is pretty wicked

// i havent actually seen ttcm... its actually on hire at the moment, sitting downstairs on the kitchen bench... but after what my sister said... i dont think il bother- just go see the remake

libelle, don't be a sheepie, watch the original, it's a bit dated, sure, but so are a lot of classics ... it's also one of the most gruelling horror films i've seen! there's a scene in American Psycho where Pat Bateman is watching the video, if you know the film well it's obvious which bit, if you don't know it well, look out for the screaming woman and the psycho with the chainsaw on the TV

or just watch the stupid movie!

Grimmy, have you seen the Ed Gein movie?
Kind of interesting. Kinda disturbing.

Sure you know the ending. And maybe it isn't top 5 material, but Passion of Christ is a pretty good horror!

yeah but luci / lena - we all know that most people have terrible taste in movies... thats how things like titanic get made and break records..

what are you top 5 ?.. i see you have ikiru - which is a tasty little treat...

Well not top 5 but amongst some favs'
Definitely
-Fight Club and all these others..
-Gangs of New York
-The One
-Minority Report
-American History X
-Terminator II
-Bloodsport
-Face Off
-Sword Fish
-Ghost
-8 Mile
-Con Air
-8MM
-III Kings
-Italian Job (Oh yes)
Plus many more to record..

A relevant illustrative example

by Italian job i'd guess you are talking about the new one with flat characters, lame jokes and Marky Mark
instead of the all time classic Italian job
with michael caine
benny hill
noel coward
and soundtrack by quincy jones

//terminator 2

nice special effects, but the original was a far better movie imho

too true

but i'd say lcajmo is an edward furlong fan
notice she included T2 right under American History X

also looks to like John Travolta, Nicholas Cage
all action films

indeed, i didn't see any of those connections, but yeah....
although sometimes good actors attract good movies and vice versa,
and sometimes an actor makes a movie great (see Jack NIcholson in As Good As It Gets for instance)

yeah great film

his new one id okay as well
i like it how he is boss of 'drive by records'

//but i'd say lcajmo is an edward furlong fan
..also looks to like John Travolta, Nicholas Cage
all action films

Not at all I do like Eddie but I wouldn't say I am a fan of his..Terminator 2 is the bomb..& the story itself is really heartfelt of how the terminator has become his dad so to speak & American History X..I dont like it because of him or his acting..I just think its a bloody awesome movie..I love hardcore..and the essence in that movie just blows me away..
As for John Travolta..no Im not a great fan although I enjoy his many characters in the movie but I do adore Nicholas Cage..he is such a great actor..
Italian Job..well the new one with all the little mini's although I would have liked the other version (the younger or should I so older version)..the new one has sparks of innovation & involves a lot of thinking outside of the square so whoever wrote the scripts to that movie had a wonderful tactful mind..

//Gangs of New York
What a fucking tragic waste of time that was.

i liked that one. (pulls out her hatchet) no really, i thought it was a little overblown, but i'll forgive that of Scorcese. when they fire on the city from the sea ... sigh ... my cinematic jaw was on the floor. i pretty much walked on air afterwards. visceral.

each to their own, though.

true romance
oldman, hopper, walken, gandolfini,
just to name a few

I enjoy thrillers hard out man..i cannot express it enough..
Has anyone seen 13 Ghosts? or what about..hang on I forget the name..
(While Im here anyone ever seen or heard of Juanna Man, a basketball flick?)...oh well when I member what its called I'll post it...(its about a young group of pommies who do a seyonce whilst they are drunk)..anyway..i'll post it soonage..

yeah, the old one had all the minis as well
the characters are a little more colourful (in particular Charlie)
but the new one is pretty good- gotta love ed norton (except in keeping the faith)
the first one is great because of the 'cliffhanger'

Jackson, Kilmer, Rapaport, Pitt... just to name a few more.
The scene in the trailer between Walken and Hopper is exceptional.

//other hardcore movies
Man bites dog is a good one.

i hear that new Mel Gibson one is pretty hardcore

Not being one to argue with a woman (or anyone else for that matter) who happens to be clutching a hatchet. I'll just smile and nod "each to their own"....

//What a fucking tragic waste of time that was.

How so? But then again I adore hardcore & that movie was pretty ruthless.
Historical gangs of New York - those bits were pretty funny history wise..and the content of the brutality was ever so too overwhelming yet so interesting to watch..(for me anyways)..Hardcore movies is what we like to get into..
Does anyone have any suggestions of other hardcore movies? If so jot them on board.
