Some of the choices on peoples lists here are arse. There is more collective knowledge on NZM music in the community here than anywhere else, at any point in time, and yet the results to date are weak.
1. HDU - Amino
2. The Phoenix Foundation - This Charming Van
3. The Chills - Heavenly Pop Hit
4. Herbs - Sensitive To A Smile (I have an am radio only in my car... this is a choice song... I like the verse specifically.)
5. Mestar - Distant Star
its too hard, does it mean your top 5 favorites, or top 5 as far as what you think is recognized within NZ, or what you think gets top 5 recognition internationally? I already want to change my list and I just submitted it, cause its sort of a mix match of all of the above.
OK, here's mine. Not the most orginal of lists, but these are my all-time faves (at the mo):
1. Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over
2. Greg Johnson - Isabelle
3. Shihad - A Day Away
4. Th' Dudes - Be Mine Tonight (Aaaaaaaysian Cigarettes! - Ed)
5. Split Enz - Message to my Girl
Fat Fred's and Trinity Roots shine out strong 4me. The order is not all to important, but these are surely some of the most amazing tunes i've heard from NZ groups
1. Trinity Roots - Sense and Cents
2. Fat Freddy's Drop - Bluey
3. Joe Dukie & DJ Fitchie - Seconds
4. Joe Dukie & DJ Fitchie - Midnight Marauders
5. Trinity Roots - Aotearoa

I've been thinking this over and I think it comes down to simply: what, in your opinion only, are your favourite NZ songs (ever).
Does that make it any easier? Hah, probably not!
NGE: of course not!
