Apparently the river is about 1 metre away from the top of the stopbank. I hope you all have enough food, because if that river breaks the bank, we'll be stuck in our houses for days. I'll be working on my playstation tan.

yeah i remember we got evacuated from school then .. the river was much higher on that day, but there wasn't anywhere near as much surface water from memory

Yeah, it's definately clearing. The clouds lifted quite a bit, and the rain is far less constant and no where near as heavy. It's supposed to pack it in again tomorrow though, apparently.

I'm always sceptical of weather reports from Aycklanders though, ever since I heard that the HUGE winds you guys were gushing over during the 'weather bomb' in 02 were gusting up to 60km/h

I was going to comment on that......... having lived 13 years in welly then moving to south orks, i was stunned to see the damge a lite wind does up there, i think it's because they get so few heavy winds that the trees don't have the same deeps roots, and the rotten branches and stuff aren't blown away daily...
It's inteesting how used to the climate, in your own area, you get.
was inWellington at the end of last feb and the heat was nearly too much......... god your footpathes get really really hot, I nearly had to put on some footwear, to stop me feet burning.
