What format do you buy your music in?

i've had a dowload of wall street

all of the above and more

i Dj and i buy vinyl, but i also collect vinyl
i have heard of many people buying records (new ones, with dance music even) simply so they can have up to date songs - in dance music it can be months or even years or never between a song coming out on vinyl and its CD release..

most rock albums are available on vinyl as well, and not many DJ's play that kind of stuff

i just like collecting music whatever the format, although i rarely buy tapes nowadays

I think it can be said that vinyl is cooler. But it should also be said that CDs are more practical. I've got a box of vinyl and no player...must get my shit together.

//I've got a box of vinyl and no player...must get my shit together.

heh. I've got boxes of vinyl a player and no needle...must get my shit togther.

//togther.

er how appropriate.

Yeah, I buy vinyl for the reason grusome mentioned. There's just so much good music that doesn't reach CD... or if it does, it's years later. There are some things I also prefer the sound of on vinyl... I hope I don't open a can of worms on that, but dance tracks mastered for vinyl often sound "hotter" to me, in a good way.

Vinyl's also cool for finding amazing albums for $2 in Woodville or somewhere...

But for convenience sake I almost always go with CD if both options are available.

i wonder if there should be a CD-R category? i haven't bought a redbook/audio format CD for a long while, but i have bought a lot of CD-Rs - self-published albums and EPs by bands.

who the hell voted 'other' and what the hell IS other?

what could there possibly be after all the other possibilities?

perhaps they only listen to music they create?

how retarded and pointless

I have a few things dubbed to minidisc that I listen to occasionally. Music on DVDs, Video, 8-track...

And yeah, there's lotsa stuff that's not available on CD - new or old.

yeah 8 tracks are cool

i scored 3 boxes of them and a player for 10 bucks a while back

I used to still use tapes but i got a stereo and a discman for xmas so now i use cds

Like the other people trying to get their shit together...I have a collection of vinyl a turntable but nothing to plug it into. 8-(
There is nothing like vinyl, though CD's are great for convenience. Some of my old fave's are only on Vinyl. No matter how much technology advances I will always maintain my Vinyl.

So you have a whole lot of music you can't actually listen to? Oh well, at least you've got vinyl like the cool kids.

i prefer vinyl, not only because of the sound and how it lasts (trying playing a scratched cd..), but also because a lot of stuff is either expensive on cd (mainstream / underground classics).. or not even available. of course, a lot of stuff isn't available on vinyl, so i do buy cds, too.

Yeah, but try playing a scratched record as well. There a little easier to scratch then CD's too. I *ahem* burn most of my cd's, and spend WAAAAY too much money on vinyl. Its an addiction. Vinyl sounds warmer, has more room for artwork (mmm double gatefold) and just feels nicer. You got this nice big heavy round thing that you can see the music (grooves) on. But try lugging a shitload of em to a gig. Not very light.

Download Mp3s (for free) but I do buy lots of CDs.

"do only dj's buy records..."

actually alot of metal/rock fans buy fans for collection purposes... A metaller wants everything his/her fave band brings out, vinyls are another thing to collect. My boyfriend has hundreds.

djs have to buy records cause they needed to practice mixing. Newayz, i think it's good to collect records, because your actually contributing to the artist you like. Beside it's nice to actually hold the real copy in your hands!

as opposed to holding the real cd?:S

yer depends on what is ur thing i personaly download, buy c.ds and vinals eh just gives yourself a better idea what u wuld like ur collection as

gareth

Why would ANYONE on a new zealand music website NOT be buying music?

Your sarcasm does not pass the minimum requirements for this internet site, you are deleted.

Ok, ok, I will ok? I was just saying stuff. I didn't mean to cause offense but if you gonna take offense well - let's just say it says alot about your personality, DUDE.

Oh, no. Hang on. It says 0%. I read it wrong.

Records...I can't afford CDs most of the time. And records are pretty.
