alright i know the whole justin timberlake/janet jackson thing is way overrated and overdone but i had to ask....mtv has now banned music videos like britney spear's toxic to incubus' megalomaniac and can only be played late nites when all the kiddies are asleep. this is all because of that stupid nipplegate. trust justin timberlake to ruin things! my question is wether you think this ban is a good idea or not and do you think that soon the NZ media will be following the americans' footsteps...no not stacey daniels showing of her nipple at a cricket match....i mean like juice and c4 banning such videos.
Personally i think that it is a stupid move. they ban videos that have meaning and substance...no not britney's video coz all that has substance there is her boobs...i mean like incubus' megalomaniac video which is pretty cool and artistic, but they decide to play videos from rap artists, eg. fifty cent, who has half naked women gettin more naked in the duration of the video. and they banned blink 182s new video with the two chicks kissing...well because there were 2 chicks kissing.i think its all whack mack! if they wanna ban videos why dont they ban the most obvious videos to ban? why don't they just ban art...some painters and photographers use naked men and women as their subjects and kids are encouraged to look at stuff like that! and we teach kids about hitler all the time so why are we not allowed to show him on music videos maybe we should ban history in schools...i mean its not like the video is worshipping him or what he did it was mainly depicting what the song meant. I'm just hoping that juice or c4 does not follow coz that would suck ass!

Although im generally against Censorship - As long as we can get these Pop-Slags like Beyonce, Britney and Slutina Slagulera off the air then ill be as sound as a pound.

personally i think its appropriate to take music with images or lyrics that are perverse off the air during hours where children are likely to be watching, well then theres the issue that maybe parents need to say no to kids watching mtv unsupervised (although that seems rather unpracticle). I don't see a reason not to show politically angled videos, providing they don't graphically depict anything too violent or sexual.

oh, its ridiculous! its entirely the parents' choice and responsibility to monitor what their kids are watching...its like saying "all rivers, lakes and oceans should have a fence around them in case a child drowns"- well the poor thing wouldn't drown if their parents were looking after him/her!

It's just lipservice, really, because MTV doesn't show that many videos during the day. Real World, Nick and Jessica, The inferno, and all other programs air in the afternoon. They may show videos at shortish intervals during the day. They show the most videos from 12-9am.

i think children should be sent outside to play until bed time
even if its freezing cold
and no TV at all
and no fun
and children should not be allowed to know about sex and nudity until they are at least 18
so, go MTV!
anything that plays into the hands of the Conservative Christian Right is okay by me

It's up to the artists to actually make innovative videos and get them played as opposed to the old cliche of T&A in rap videos, guys coordinating jumping upand down with their guitars, singing while it's pouring with rain. Until people get tired of those cliches they will always be paid. And by showing nudity etc in videos the artist is always guaranteed a headline, which is the whole point. See Britney/Beyonce's arse/breasts!!! Like we haven't seen them a million times before......
Give me the White Stripes Hardest Button to Button video anyday - how the hell did they do that without someone going mad?

Nick Cave and some fat Aussie rocker did a BRILLIANT video in which black chicks shook their booty all over the shop with these two really weird dudes sat on stools singing.
Apparently, Nick Cave had asked the director what was on MTV these days and he said "shakin booty". So, they went with that.
What pisses me of about this double standard is that Beyonce/Britney will shake their assets in videos and perfomance, and them come all "i'm the virgin girl next door"
When the second Disturbed album came ...
When the second Disturbed album came out , Believe, MTV banned the playing of the video for the first single, Prayer.
The video shows members of the band walking around a downtown city and suffering. One is hit by a car swerving to avoid a kid, etc. Towards the end there is an earthquake which shatters buildings and rubble falls on another band member.
The song is about coming through suffering, perserverence and will. The singer says it was based lightly on the book of Job and is his response to 9-11.
MTV banned it because there were falling buildings...
Sometimes, I'm glad I don't care about a channel I don't get.
And I doubt C4 will go far that way. The played Fuck Her Gently by tenacious D didn't they? That was brilliant.
