Salmonella Dub pulled out of the sold-out Rippon music festival at //Wanaka after organisers refused to provide more than six guest passes.
Band member and manager Andrew Penman said the band should not have to pay for their partners to attend - and with 11 people in the Salmonella stage line-up these days, six passes just won't cut it.//
i just read this on bands.co.nz and found it a bit wierd...surely quite a few fans payed to see Salmonella Dub, they are a big band after all, and shouldn't the band consider not letting down all the hundreds (thousands?) of people at the festival.....Of course 6 passes is a bit lame but what was in the contract......What you guys think?

i talked to someone who knew the organisers - he told me (nothing substantial) there was a lot more to it.
(obviously ... actually he didn't need to tell me that for me to actually guess that was the case, but i was a little drunk etc when he was talking about it)

if that really was the case (not enough free passes) then i think thats a totally pathetic reason to pull out of a show (surely that cant be true - im trying to give em the benefit of the doubt here!)
but if it's true and if i ever get the opportunity to meet them, i'll happilly tell that to their faces.

I reckon there should be a music union so that bands stop getting ripped off.
Like the kings arms - not paying the bands and making them pay to play there is a fucking joke. If bands actually took a stand more often, then promoters and club owners would have no choice but to stop ripping musicians off, just because they can.
it's about time someone said no to these bullshit promoters who stand to make a shitload of money from ripping musicians off. I would rather pay more at the door and know that musicians were actually going to be paid for their time and effort. There has to be a better way of organising things!
I would rather pay less at the ...
I would rather pay less at the door…..playing music to your fans should be the primary concern for any musician who wants some form of credibility…..sure not having enough free passes may not please the band etc but I mean cmon, all this is secondary to the music. Which is what its about isn’t it??
The fact a band like s-dub will pull out of a gig for bullshit promoter politics only makes themselves look like a bunch of dickheads in my opinion. I don’t think it’s a problem with promoters…I think it’s a problem with bands who feel they can demand certain requirements before they play then have a tantrum when it doesn’t go their way…sure that’s fine if certain bands wish to be like that…..but personally I would hope that most musicians playing in bands around the country would think of their FANS first and above all else…not their bitching girlfriend moaning cause she’s gonna have to buy a ticket to see her boyfriend s band play.
