Ok, so i know this has probably been done a million times. But What was the last cd you all bought.
(i start this coz i just bought one and the topic is interesting...for others reviews/opinions on music and stuff...u all know wat i mean!)
So what was it?
I just bought The Darkness - Permission to land - from the Warhouse! $28.99 (brilliant)
Can't really comment too deeply, just briefly listening to it for the first time (only had it like an hour)...one first listen it sounds very cool.

On Monday I bought De Stijl from the White Stripes. It is their second album and was released in 2000. Apparently it went out of print and was reissued a year later after the success of the follow-up, White Blood Cells. It's a raw album - hell, it makes Elephant look polished. All guitar - acoustic and electric - and drums, with some harmonica and violin thrown in. It's mostly garage-blues, with some 60s-sounding pop tunes that recall the Beatles and the Kinks, psychedelic jams, epic blues-rockers reminiscent of Led Zep and country-ish singalongs. It is amazing how "developed" these songs sound despite the sparse production - after a while it's just accepted that any additional instrumentation would just ruin the effect.
All in all a great album - but then the White Stripes are my new favourite contemporary band. I can't wait to pick up the self-titled debut.

Oh man, you must. Its the best of their four. Alot of covers which are great but they never bet the original songs on their self titled album. Especially if you're into the rawness you just described.
But thats just my opinion :)

Those Gerling CD's are pretty awesome, although BadBlood is pretty ordinary compared to the other two. Have you got their first album 'Children of Telepathic Experiences?' Weird and crazy guitar music.

Nah, I haven't got the first one, I reallly enjoyed what I saw at the BDO & when I saw these going cheep cheep I grabbed them.

I picked up Horsepower Productions' 'In Fine Style'. I love really cheesy 2-step, stuff like those Artful Dodger tracks with Craig David singing on them, but this is a really enjoyable alternative to all that "up-for-it" business. The stumbling jiggly beats and huge jungle style bass lines are in there, but with a lot of dub influence (echoed snatches of reggae DJs, house chords, funk guitars and the kitchen sink) and no singing.
I'm still gutted I never picked up Dub War's 'Murderous Style', which was by a couple of these guys and eclipses pretty much everything on here.

The reason I ask, is because whilst 2nd hand shopping yesterday, I distinctly remember seeing a dub war CD in the New Selections.
I'll have a closer look when I head down town in the morning.
If you've got a link with the cover it may tweek my memory.

Ah sorry, I thought were you asking what I paid $40 for. The guys who did the Dub War 12" on Tempa haven't done anything else under that name, and that is the 12" I'm after. There was a lot of info at hyperdub.net, which doesn't seem to be up at the mo.
I do remember a CD by a band called Dub War. I think they were a dub metal band!?!

Man, Black Shuck gives me flashbacks to the Usborne Book of Ghosts which I used to sneak a look at in our primary school library. According to thast book Black Shuck was a one-eyed ghost dog which used to scare me witless as a little kid. I used to have recurring nightmares about him being at my aunt's house in Hawkes Bay!?
