must have gear

re: guitar amps and microphone threads. Whats the piece of gear all you players couldnt gig, session, live without?

Forums: NZ Music,

i'd be lost without my computer.. basically all the music i make involves it in some way ..
also my geetar (ibanez electric thingy) for noodling out ideas

Good leads! sounds obvious but so many people shoot themselves in the foot by having shitty cheap leads that fuck out and sound like crap.

mmm good question... I've had a lot of gear stolen before, which gives you a different perspective on what's 'necessary' and what's not. A couple of years ago I might've said it was my classic Ibanez FL-9 flanger...

sorta dont know what you got till its gone. i hadn't thought of it that way before, cheers f.

Yep, she got nicked, along with a whole bunch of other 'must have' gear, all of which I was convinced was 'my sound', whatever that is... you know it's just like lena says below- no piece of gear can replace SOUL. Unfortunately they have yet to have developed a soul-pedal, but who knows- maybe you could digitally-model one... what if it got nicked though...

....guitar strings and drumsticks

My computer. I use Reason (a sequencer with an inbuilt drum machine, samplers, synths and effects) to flesh out ideas, and as someone whose memory is basically fucked, I often wake up in the morning and am pleased and surprised to hear what I made the night before, whereas without my puter, I would have totally forgotten 90% of what I had worked on.

¿my brain?- or wherever my musical ability resides- it allows me to make any noize-making device sing- or grunt

my big fucker zildjian ride. i refuse to clean it. I'm superstitious in that sense. I reckon the more filth on it, the more organic it will sound.
Probably wrong, but, ya know...

Dude, clean it. It will sound all pretty again. Just watch out what you clean it with... feel grateful you dont live in rotorua (I dont actually know that Im just saying) where all the sulfur continuously dirties your cymbals every 6 months to a point where they are black!

crazy, i never thought about that. Those poor rotoruanrans. Or whatever.
Anyway, i heard about this old guy in the states who owns a musical instrument shop. I think specifically a drum shop. So, whenever he got a new shipment of cymbals in he'd always bury them in his back yard, a few feet underground with plenty of soil on top, (in there box's mind), because he said he could 'hear' the difference in the tones because of the earthy aging, or some shit.
Kinda cool tho
