Rock Bars in Palmy

I've recently moved to Woodville from Auckland and I'm feeling really isolated. Does anyone know any bars in or around this area that have a similar vibe to Poppa Jacks or Submission in Auckland? Or the King's Arms?

Something rocky, fun, friendly people.... My wife and I have no friends down here!!

Palmy... The swingers capital of NZ.

Maybe an alternative way for you and your wife to meet new friends.....

"Keys in the bowl, let's party!"

Bit of topic, but I was hitching down to masterton a few years ago & got dropped off in Woodville, I walked most of the night without getting a ride & slept in a implement shed along the way.
Arising after a few hours uncomfortable sleep on a concrete floor, I found I was 10 mins walk from the tui brewery. Yeah Right ...I will never forget that stretch of road. Having never been stuck when hitching before.
Isn't Woodville where the Mountain Rock Festival originated?

I wish I knew... That would be nice...

But a place where the main drag has 6 pubs and 6 antique store but only one dairy is beginninng to drive me mad

Plenty of bars in Palmy but not really any specifically rock oriented, try Jones Bar on Rangatikei St (I think)or for good original rock, The Stomach!

studied in Palmy a bit, and went to a pub called JR's a few times.
fucked if I can remember what street it was in, but I remember it was more often than not frequented by the local bikers, The Mothers ,(who, unfortunaltly were not the Frank Zappa band), but some uncouth wankers who beat up my mate, who mentioned to them he happened to enjoy the sounds of Chris Knox.
If that isn't there, try Stomach, for some serious drinkin'.

If it's any conciliation I smacked over one of those mother losers outside the railway one night.

consolation

This'll give a chuckle..the Mothers are Disco fans, i've got a few friends in the Mothers and they regularly have disco nights at the pad.

Having lived in Palmy for a long time (but now live in Auckland) I know a few establishments.
Guvenors Pub on Rangitikei St has live bands that blow through Palmy. The Stomach also have live bands.
There are your mainstream teenie bopper pubs like Highflyers on teh Square, The Railway Tavern on Main Street, The Hog on George Street and the good ol' Cobb & Co on Main Street as well.
There are some quite cool Irish bars as well like the Shamrock, the Celtic Inn (do live Irish bands still I think) and newly opened Murphys Bar near the cinema.
If you are looking for live music, good luck!! Don't think there are too many venues except the ones already mentioned.
