the official "BDO acts that were shit" thread

good god basement jaxx were awful. they need to learn that geeky looking knob-twiddlers belong at the back behind the gadget desk, not out front trying to rock out with their cock out. its bad enough felix thinking he can sing but when the other dude picked up the guitar i knew this was the shittest thing i had ever seen. doesnt matter how many gay black dudes you have prancing around the stage, its still not going to mask a stinky performer with no stage presence

Forums: NZ Music,

felix is the hottest geeky looking knob-twiddler in the world.

(he can twiddle my knobs any day...)

you've got knobs?

if she doesn't have knobs, she probably does have twiddly bits

I saw 25 minutes of basement jaxx before the lips started and it was awesome ...so there....I like mainstream house...why? I dont know...I dont like house parties...dance parties etc...just the stuff in the top 10

blindspott - i have never been a fan of this band, however, their performance on friday simply proved that no-one should. it was shit.

what was up with phlex? Couldn't seem to hit the right key

and when the deceptikonz came out the guitarist was playing along trying to heavy the song up I guess, but that was also really off... guess we all have bad gigs sometimes

um phlex sounded just like the recorded version... he never hits the key in that either.

blindspotts performance = awful

PS i don't think they even played Nil by Mouth did they?

Muse were fucking awful. God they were awful!

I was also unfortunate enough to witness the last Lost Prophets song in their set. Ewwwwww.

But yeah, Muse was gut-wrenchingly awful.

What was awful about them? You don't like their music at all or you thought they did a poor job performing live?

I'm just interested as to the reasoning behind an opinion which is the polar opposite of my own.

For my part I managed to avoid musicians I don't like in favor of musicians which I do, all of which met or exceeded my expectations. Notable standouts for me were Muse, Mars Volta, The Mint Chicks.

To my mind, bitching about music that you didn't like even before you saw it live is just wanking.

Only saw 3 Muse songs. Liked them all. Newborn was just GREAT!

yeah the lost prophets...what the fuck? why have such a completely shit unkown band from offshore...when is so much good NZ stuff not at the BDO.....

muse are awful because :

-they make dreadfully boring music
-they and their fans wank on about the complex and beutiful melodies, which to me sound like a handful of tuning forks falling down a drainpipe
-even though their music is run of the mill, they must surround it with popmous orchestral crap.
-they can't make a good video to save themselves
-their stage show had all this 'magnificent' epic stuff at the start, then just fell back into self-indulgent wussy sort of confused gothic pop-schlock

I thought Muse were the phatest band of the day and i've never listened yto thenm before

no-one is ever on the fence about Muse. people seem to either worship em or want them dead. many great bands like that.

then again, matt bellamy is my own personal hand puppet, so I'm obliged to like 'em :)

that's better.

Dandy Warhols. Gutted.

....and they weren't shit - just extremely vexing, but just because absolutely noone else will want to put them in this thread I'm going to nominate The Flaming Lips.

boo. boo. boo.
serious deletion required here.

why were you so irritated by them matey? was it the animals? the puppet? the lights? the rest of their fucking COOL show??

:P The bopping furry animals, and the bopping plastic sun thingies; not only their presence, but the way they were dancing rubbed me up the wrong way. The puppet. The pictures of dancing topless women followed closely by a dissected eyeball. The sheer bulk of time the lead guy spent talking. He sounded like a bit of a pretentious wanker.

I didn't hate it - I just didn't get it.

you are CRAZY heather. The Flaming Lips were the BDO highlight for me....not just for 04, but EVER. They were amazing.

I could not wipe the smile off my face. I am counting down the minutes to get my photos back.

Wayne lookedat me dancing in the press pit, smiled and then threw a huge handful of confetti straight at me. It took me ages to get it out of my beard :) My girlfriend was still pulling confetti out of my EYES! the next morning..haha.

Muse were easily worst band of the day, followed closely by Lostprophets

Agreed Blink, I thought he was cooler than cool, he seemed to be constantly laughing at himself and taking the piss, which I obviously appreciate.

Yes, I am crazy. I know I'm probably the only person that didn't like their set, which is really the only reason I'm posting. Don't want to poop anyone else's smiley time, but I'm sure there's plenty enough love and sharing going around to keep everyone happy.

Oh - and those funny '80s effects on the singer's mike-cam. And the fact that he had a mike-cam.

at least you admit you are crazy...

It's the first step.

//funny '80s effects
duh. Echo of the screen behind him. Still.

i think you pretty much speak for yourself there

i gotta step up and add my name to the list of people COMPLETELY WON OVER to Wayne and the Flaming Lips - talk about good feeling!! Can't imagine a better way to end a full on day. I'm definitely going to invite them back.

Heather...if you were in this room with me a would give you a really werd look..i thought you had such mercurial taste....i guess I will forgive you one day .but ummmmm the lips almost made me cry I thought it was all so beautiful.....

//Heather...if you were in this room with me a would give you a really werd look..
I know, I'm a pariah. Everyone thinks I'm mad...I just don't know how to make this right...

Well, whatever BDO finds the Flaming Lips playing opposite Phoenix Foundation, I'll be the sum total of your audience.

Now I'm feeling pretty sore I didn't go to the BDO, being the Lips fan that I am. Hopefully, they'll come back for a seperate visit like Coldplay.

Apparently the dancing Kiwi was Dolf de Datsun. But I don't really believe it.

didn't go to big day out
but love reading how you all loved flaming lips animals, their big screen antics, their cam, their stage banter, their confetti, their gimmicks, etc etc etc
no one mentions their music
you loved that......you should check out a circus (they even have real animals)

// the dancing Kiwi was Dolf de Datsun
I heard an interview with them, on the mix ( repeated tonight @ 11.06 I think)
anyway it is quite common for them to rope in other "handy" artists

"christianity"...it kinda goes without saying. Their music is of course fantastic. We didn't need to got a big day out to know that.....however, their stage show is something that can't be experienced on their recordings...so that is why everybody is talking about it.

nah i reckon what we do is, we invite the flaming lips back like they want, and we get phoenix foundation to play with them. i mean, it doesn't even require thought. it's logical and it would be ACE.

you're kidding right blink??? ...
had heard they are the best live show around
when you use 'we'
is that the royal 'we' ?
or are you the spokesman for a generation?

but if bryan adams hadda played you would've been their christianity?

whatever.

o.k christianity.....They sounded Great!

happy now?

I agree with Blink here. It was all about showmanship, the performance and the Flaming Lips delivered. They were refreshing compared to the stand and play music put on a tough face typical set. Ingenious. Most of that stuff so easily couldn't have worked like the fake blood and the nun puppert but they did because Wayne Coyne knew how to make it work. Work the crowd. Work expectations and perceptions. One heck of a way to finish the night. Not on an adrenaline rush but a soothing revelation.

//but if bryan adams hadda played you would've been their christianity?

with bells on

just having a laugh at all you folks singing the praises of an act on the
official "BDO acts that were shit" thread

//It's the first step.

ha! classic.

// folks singing the praises of an act on the official "BDO acts that were shit" thread

HA the naivety thinking that it would be otherwise, D'oh

//It took me ages to get it out of my beard
no one offered to suck it out?..
Sorry but I have that image burnt into my brain....... oh god it wont go away... help *shudder*

//The sheer bulk of time the lead guy spent talking. He sounded like a bit of a pretentious wanker.

No he didn't! He sounded like a guy you'd like to get drunk and talk shit with.

//Muse were easily worst band of the day, followed closely by Lostprophets

Wow. I am not alone.

i would love to meet him, he would just make me smile even more, and i really want his singing nun puppet.

The D4 - enough is enough. Sal Dub should have had their spot.

no more D4 on the main stage, they just can't cut it, and noone likes them.
