Did anyone see them on c4 with Jackie? What were your thoughts on them. I thought they sounded alright, reminded me of another band that i cant quite place at the moment. I think the people, I think it was Finn and Sophie left more of an impression for me.. They were so down on themselves and shy. Man, that was intense. I liked that song they played though, and Finns hat was kinda cool. Whoa. Issues.
Anyone elses thoughts? Oh and, whats with the lack of exposure here?

Re lack of exposure here (NZ) - i reckon its probably got something to do with the fact that they've been living in the UK for ages. I've seen them live here (England) loads of times, always the support band, never the headline act... bloody good live. Their albums meant to be out shortly, can't remember what label.

The interview however was not great. I fully understand what Jaquie was saying about it being a hard interview to do - ask a question and get the head hanging of Finn, and the nervous giggle of Sophie. I don't think I've ever seen such a shy, subdued interview.
That said, I really liked Lavinia, and look forward to hearing more from the Veils

At the start of their interview their shyness was quite charming but as it went on (and on and on) I started getting an urge to give them a good ol' shake and tell them 'to look at someone when they speak to you'. That said , I did feel sorry for them they did seem seriously uncomfortable but I guess shy and tortured can be a good image. Not that I didn't enjoy their song, I'm looking forward to hearing more from them.

Actually to set the record straight i'm going to retract my minor Placebo comparision to The Veils.
Mainly because:
1. I listened to soundclips at their site and only "Lavinia"sounded anything close to Placebo.
2. They were closer to Radiohead soundwise and they are miles away from Placebo.
3. The same difference between them and Placebo is same the difference between Placebo and Muse.

Yes, Finn's pretty and all, but it's clear he's spent more than a few hours singing along with Placebo, and I doubt it's coincidence that Finn had a very androgenous quality about him, not unlike Mr Molko. Also, the video was piss poor, but the "grading" was nice?? (Film geeks, help me out?) But the story was "there's a room, and it's all old and shit, and a guy is singing a song, close up on the guys face for an hour or so, then go into his eye and show ultra-cheesy roses burning, then more room, more burning, end" SUCK.
Also, the song was two pretty chords over and over, I think. I would like to hear more of their stuff, but I thought that song was lacking in movement i.e. one good thing over and over isn't really enough.
Totally agree about the shake them comment when they were being interviewed. I started answering the questions for my family, so that they would have someone animated to watch, instead of those anti-rock stars. I mean, if you can't fucking communicate with another human being in a conversation, maybe don't go on tv?!
