hi, im going on new zealand idol and am planning to rap a few verses, do u think it will be allowed, will i be stopped half way through? damn i dont know whether to go through with it. im asking anyone here, but it would be good if someone who has been on it could help me too.

I think whether or not you rap in your audition will depend on what you want to get out of it.
If you want a serious shot at being the NZ Idol, you'll need to prove that you're an excellent singer. If you can rap as well, that's cool, but save it for later. Remember in Australian Idol when Levi did the rappy bit in the middle of "Every Little Step"? He waited for weeks and proved he could sing before bringing that out.
But if you're wanting to be one of the quirky failed auditionees, then do lots of rapping. The Australian Idol auditions had more than a few genuinely talented people who were rejected because while they might have been beautiful opera singers, they weren't able to sing pop well. But this isn't necessarily a bad thing. One of the Australian auditionees did some beatboxing that proved so popular that he got to perform at the grand final.
I also suggest that you check out the New Zealand Idol Boards (link below). There are heaps of people there who have been to the Wellington audition today who may be able to help you with more information.

Just do it..its up to the judges but for real they are searching more for a singer & thats obvious of course, not everybody likes rap & singing is just the most beautiful instrument of all..so go for Gold like that dude who did his MEAN AZZZZZ beatbox..dam he got me going on...Anyhow, do your thang..I would say it would be fun, ice breaking for them - seeing that they may have had so many singers for the day & also a good booster for yourself..the more you perform in front of judge type people, the more it boosts your esteem, confidence & of course your willingness to do your thang anywhere you go..GO HARD BRO..

Personally, i think u should sing your way through until the peoples choice stage, and THEN bust ya rhymes. Rap is HUGE.BUT with the PEOPLE-NOT the judges. Good luck dude. c u there.
