Job Search

what good web sites are there to search for jobs in new zealand?

namely an architectural job, for someone who is still studying (hmm, maybe student job search has a page?)

Forums: The Bar,

Are you studying architecture? Don't know a hella lot about it except that all my architect friends are self-employed. If you really want a job in the industry then I imagine it'd be time better spent trying to get some contacts through your course and chasing up a few alumni for work experience. Most of the jobs advertised on job sites will be recruitment agents looking for fully qualified staff for big companies.

..but you could try seek...and the secret is to find three or four recruitment agents specialising in finding people in your particular field, and focus on developing a bit of a rapport. Then they'll do most of the grunt work, either because they like you, or because they want you to stop bugging them.

do it like the offsrping said and go get a job!!!

you'd actually be suprised how many want students, one, they get to influence them, two they're not required to pay them as much as some one with a bit of paper by there name. I've already done some odd jobs. Can find positions through tutors but at this time of year thats not an possible.

regretting not putting my name on the job sheet they had during the final weeks (had some stuff lined up, but it went down the crapper).

//you'd actually be suprised how many want students,
no doubt, but I imagine most of them won't be advertising through recruitment agents or on public job websites. If contacts through your tutors aren't happening then student job search is probably your next best bet; or whatever architecture periodicals exist.

here are a few job sites that have an abundant number of vacanies.

jobstuff.co.nz

if you want an architectual job can i suggest Rob Law, these guys are professionals in the architectual and enginering industries.

architectural jobs are pretty slim as far as i've found on job websites within nz, i think the best way to go about it is to try and make contacts with people... if you don't know anyone perhaps contact the local ADNZ or NZIA?

http://www.adnz.org.nz/

http://www.nzia.co.nz/

( i think nzia offer student membership for about $25 a year.... i could be wrong, its been a while.)

yeah, just chatting to someone today, they gave me a few links, basically everyone is stretched to the max, so there is a lot of work out there, and soon there will be more when they cut the cowboys out... which has pros and cons in its self.

Best be contacting existing architects that you know of that could give you some training with a bit of pay to help you out..who knows they would probably use you in the future..
If you dont know any ask around, talk..Word Of Mouth is the best for getting something that you really want.
