pro auckland band need help recording drum tracks

I'm in a rock band called Heart of Fifths, were an original 4 piece rock band and we need to record some good quality drum tracks so that i can record the rest of the band myself using cool edit, i don't yet have the mics or mixing gear to record a full drum kit, the rest we can do ourselves. Drummer has pro gear and has awesome skills, probably looking at 3 tracks or more.. But wouldn't take too much time to lay down the tracks, so probably a standard day job. Will pay but looking for a good deal.

We have room and recording gear if your willing to supply mics and a mixer to us.

SAE (or equivalent) students we'd record a few full tunes for you if ya want.

Open to suggestions! But we wana do this within the next few weeks.

Check out our sound at www.heartoffifths.com to see that we don't suck and that we'd be a good professional band to work with.

cheers!

Forums: Classifieds,

If you could do it in a day, why don't you go to the rock shop and ask to appro (which is like try before you buy) some mics and a mixer. You just need to leave a drivers license number or passport number or whatever, and gaurantee that if they get damaged in any way, you'll buy them.

I'd suggest a D112 for the kick drum,
SM57 for the snare,
two good condensers (I would get Rode NT3's or NT5's if they have them) for overheads
and a few mid-sized dynamics for the toms (I don't really know what the ideal tom mic would be, I usually just use whatever I can find).
You might be lucky to be able to score all that gear, but it's worth a shot.

you could try approaching a studio to see if you can hire some mics from them....some of them will be into it. A mixer is a little harder to source. You could just go into a studio to record the drums and then import the files into your COOLEDIT program.

hey, cheers for the reply.
i've been thinking about the going into a studio for the drums option, although if i can do something more cost efficient i will.. i know it's fairly cheap to get 8 hours in a studio between 4 members i'd rather give it a go myself seeing i spent a fortune on a pc with a top notch soundcard..

I've got mates at both the city rockshop and henderson (used to be in a band with the one in town) so shouldn't be a problem, i didn't know you could do that?!

how much would you charge to come in for a few hours after and help with the mixing? Just outa curiosity?

Cheers

$20 an hour, tracking and mixing.

I've heard of Pro-White bands, but Pro-Auckland? Mate.
