hmm...probably need some more info sam, but most regional councils have a new business advisory guy who you can go and see to get all the info and advice you need. also IRD have a kit (video, forms, booklets, etc..) that can help you sort out the book work side of things.

Yeah you could also try other sources as well whether your related to it or not.
You have Winz, Inland Revenue, Free business courses locally. If you're in Auckland which I think you're probably not theres a place where you can do a free course for 24 weeks & you get a Certificate in Small Business & the best thing about it is the convienience of doing it at home..so this is something to think about..Hit me back if you want more details..other than that try every source you can for all the information you need. You must have a plan for sure & its got to be something that you think would give you a good turnover so think about the customer when you are making plans.

have an idea or service that people need that isn't availiable and you will be sweet. Differentiation between your product and your competitors.

When i first set up "blink", shooting school balls, I spotted a niche market. Their were no photographers specialising in this area charging affordable prices. Within 5 years I had an almost complete monopoly in the greater wellington/hutt/kapiti area, my company (with 3 photographers) shooting 50 balls a year. The money I earn from this "seasonal" work allows me to spend time working with something I am truly passionate about...music.

I could easily develop my business model and franchise it, offer it in other major cities and even start taking on Australia....but i don't care that much about school balls to spend much more time on it...which brings me to my most impotant piece of advice.. Do not start a business unless it is something you are truly, madly passioante about and will spend every waking moment trying to make it a success.

There is nothing more satisfying then being your own boss.
