I hope you're not implying good charlotte ain't any good. admit it, they're just too cool for school. mclusky on the other hand... that's sum fine hollering.
WHy must stupid threads like this go on?!!! If u don't like it then don't fucking listen to it and shut the fuck up!!! By the way, i don't like punk rawk either.
another topic where our fine and illustrious members share intelligent views and light-hearted debates over the state of the music industry and the philosophy of music itself, wow does this make me proud to be a member of such a diverse and culturally rich community!
Punk rocks man..dont even go there. Just like every other genre, you have your good artists & your really stooopid ones..leave Punk alone. They're pretty cool. I love a genre like this to keep me sane.
//Just like every other genre, you have your good artists & your really stooopid ones
Except that punks kind of turvy topsie because according to its very nature the worst musicians are traditionally the best punks.
So, if the worst musicians are the best punks then the best musicians are the worst punks.
Even so, they got this RA RA thang going down..I guess Punk music should be smoothed out a bit, perhaps a little improved maybe so its not so terrible..nevertheless i still love it cos of its rudeness.
I'm with you man, if you listen to good punk, which actually honours the true issues of the punk genre, such as freedom and equality etc then punk rock is one of the most intelligent and passionate music genres out there and thats what I fucking love about it!!!
I'm talking old-school punk rock anyways, and yes the DIY aspect of punk is about taking music out of the elitist arena and into the hands of anyone, but that doesn't mean that the best punks are bad musicians...I think that is a dumb statement. I don't enjoy crust punk, where someone just screams into the mike and doesn't actually have anything to say about anything, I can't relate to that.
Punk Rock is also not just about the fashion, the fashion is merely a way of publically reflecting your rebellion from our bullshit conformist society. It's about making your own clothes - patches. t's etc not looking like every other clone in the street in the latest label dreamed up by some designer.
There are not many, if any, people that have the balls to stand up for what they believe in - so up the punx!!!
Hmmm. I love this theory that punk is 'dead'!!!
Punk is alive and well in the hearts of everyone who has ever felt any injustice done against them, or who feels that society is run in a way that does not benefit us all.
The punk attitude is in my favourite quote by damnit, its been a long day and I can't remember his name, i think it was the guy from the doobie brothers "It's democracy as long as you don't say too much!"
Punk will never die as long as people feel that way.
Sure punk began as an attack on the industrialisation of Britian, but it lives on in many peoples belief systems and does not have to be so obvious as wearing a mohawk and band patches.
From the one hand, i can see how Hip Hop began as a form of freedom from white culture and black expression in the hearts of ghetto's, but you look at Hip Hop as people know it today and it is so far removed from punk! How can you compare a music genre that degrades women as mere sex objects and is obsessed with materialism in the form of clothing labels and expensive cars as being even remotely related to the origins of punk?
I appreciate all kinds of music for different reasons, but I always come back to Punk for its true meanings and its passion. Hip Hop is a fantastic musical genre, hell, even Malcolme McLaren - the Sex Pistols manager appreciated the musical qualities of Hip Hop by exploring "All that scrathcin' is makin me itch" etc for years...however Hip Hop has gone downhill and is just a conglomerate of boring gangsta wannabes who think they can make a quick buck.
// Punk is alive and well in the hearts of everyone who has ever felt any injustice done against them, or who feels that society is run in a way that does not benefit us all.
// Punk is alive and well in the hearts of everyone who has ever felt any injustice done against them, or who feels that society is run in a way that does not benefit us all.
I have felt all of those, but here I am, not punk.
I think you might be wrong.
Oh and one more thing Kobra...
In my reference to punk being alive and well in the hearts of anyone who has ever felt injustice, perhaps I did not explain myself slooooowly enough for you.
What I was refering to was the punk attitude, which can be seen in many kinds of music which tackle the same issues, which is why many people in this forum believe Hip Hop to be the new punk.
The attitude which I refer to is part of what makes great songs, whether they take on the punk music format or not - listen to the lyrics of Bob Marley's 'Redemption Song' and tell me there aint a bit of the attitude in that...which is probably why, the wonderful Joe Strummer did a fantastic cover of it before he died. RIP
Cos every person adopts a certain way of talking that matches their way of life and the ONLY people I have ever heard using that expression were 'gangsta's' (or at least wanted desperately to be) ...I've lived ALL over Auckland so I have heard that talk before, but hey if Metallers are talking like that then its nice to see everyone is gettin along! ;-P
chickadee, i just want you to know that the word "fool" has been around longer than hip hop.
much longer in fact.
mr burns says "excellent" but it doesn't mean that every time i say "excellent" i'm pretending to be mr burns, or that in fact i AM mr burns ... it means i'm using a simple, common word.
true true.
I think I know that the word 'fool' has been around for a long time.
My point was in the subtle interpretation of the way it was typed.
Somehow it seems different when typed in caps. More like spat out in a gansta kinda way. And while we are on the topic. Why doesn't this forum have emoticons - it would make a lot more sense for getting our 'tone of voice' across.
ok i ment to say Pop-Punk gets annoying Power-pop (good charlotte) sucks also if Punks dead how come artists are releasing new stuff all the time, New Punk bands are forming and people are still buying Punk cd's/Tapes? POP MUSICS DYING so is RAP AND HIP HOP the artists come and they go in like a month then come back in like 5 months with some rushed piece of shit that sells out and dies...Punk stays forever :)
hahaha...you are so right 4_tha_punx calling good charlotte "punk" is like calling lionel ritchie and the commodores or the bay city roller 'heavy metal.'
oh yea and on the fashion acessory topic, saying that punk is only about fashion is ridiculous!!!
Take a look at the music scene, hip hop is all about fashion - they are incredibly artfully arranged, pop artists have to wear the latest gear, the only artists who probably don't have to conform toooo much towards fashion would be grunge/alternative/metallers, but lets face it - even they have their own form of uniform, eg long hair, piercings, tattoos, flannel shirts etc. I can't think of a single music form that doesn't have some kind of 'fashion look' associated with it - although most have sweet fuck all except for fashion - at least punks got great taste as well as good songs!!! :-P
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaally Kobra??
Have you watched C4 lately.
Don't tell me that every band you see hasnt spent a helluva lot of time thinking about their 'look', and if it isn't proof enough - why would Nelly release a song dedicated to 'Air Force Ones'.
Now you might not respect Nelly as an artist - thats not what this debate is about...it's about the fact that every genre of music lover has a fashion following to it. It's how the distinguish themselves. And you might not do that - neither do I - I love punk music, but I do not have a mohawk. BUT the simple fact is that when young people have a passion for a type of music and are looking for an identity, it is the fashion that becomes a vital part of their music following.
You might also like to note that it is not just fashion now that Musicians are so significant at promoting. Did you know that sales of Courvosier went up a tremendous amount since the track 'Pass le courvosier'.
You might also like to note Britney Spears vs. Madonna (puke!) - don't tell me that the product placement of the Mitsibishi at the beginning of the vid is an accident. That car, as a result will now be the ultimate fashion accessory for people who love that kind of music.
The impact that musicians have on the music industry is insane!
Not to mention, as I said before - do you not go to concerts and open your eyes and look around and acknowledge that just about every person their will be dressed in a similar 'fashion' to the band that they have gone to see?? I didn't go to 50c but I can picture the crowd.
Even anti-fashion bands and music fans, have a cultivated anti-fashion look to them. Don't try to pretend this isnt true. You know it happens!
Kobrai - you think I know nothing? Well, your statements reveal even less. Do you even have an opinion on anything or do you just go round dissing people?
"your mum sux" does not really tell me too much about your intellect either? How about you try to make your statements a little more fruitful in the future! Thats what makes these forums interesting to read.
No matter how much you agree/disagree with people, this is a democracy, so why don't you take the opportunity to speak up?
What exactly do you know??
I'd be really interested to see some of your opinions, rather than simply statements on other peoples supposed intellect...
yea i know!
I don't dress up - hell I can't afford clothes, so am thinking of joining a nudist colony anyways. ;-)Besides its too damn hot to wear anything!!! Am i the only one freaking out in this heat?

its not all good, eyesores with bad haircuts are not all good, if the general 'punk liking' public like and enjoy looking as if they have emerged out of a sewage plant every morning, its their choice, but it doesnt say much for the intellegence of punk fans.
