The dark conscience of nz music

Couple of OT discussions going in different threads, so let's consolidate.

...your thoughts on The Anvil here. Does New Zealand Music need a conscience? Will The Anvil successfully save us from our own egos?

http://anvil.orcon.net.nz ]

Forums: The Bar,

New Zealand music needs to lose its fucking conscience. Mind you, I have just finished reading the Motley Crue autobiography/biography/drug and groupie adventures, so I'm biased.

Word. Consequences be damned. Conservatism has never had a place in anything interesting.

That is a FANTASTIC book. I recomend it to everyone. I took it to school, and people would make a face when I said it was a music biography. But give them a quick read and suddenly everyone requested it at the library. It's very rock and roll, and, erm, explicit.

what I want to know is what happened to rumour bitch? there was some real dirt-dishing. last we heard was the 2002 roundup, whereupon it was said...

"That will do for 2002 but look out bitches, because after negotiating a hefty pay rise and securing first dibs on any touring rock stars, I'm making this a regular thing."

I've been wondering exactly the same thing, noizy. I'm craving a good update of rumour bitch. Classy gossip is great fun.

It makes nztabloid.com look both profound and interesting.

Bastards.

pool ol' anvil has taken the site offline for a while it seems.

It was the Oikos, I tells ya! Jimi's found the ultimate weapon!

The Anvil says "Yeah, I'll be back after Christmas, thanks for all the attention, haven't you all got work to do, I know you have Blink"
The Anvil also says" Fick yr Scandal to the_anvil@(NOSPAM)orcon.net.nz"

hey that email doesn't work unless you put it in like this. the_anvil@orcon.net.nz

Man, I had to lie down after channelling the spirit through my body. Mr O does not take kindly to being named in vain, it seems.

buddy, what're the bets the "NOSPAM" part of that mail address is gonna do the trick! why the hell didn't i think of that, guess i need some more dark-conscience-intellect...

The Anvil says "Rock is not a meritocracy, and therefore wherever there are Musicians there are people being praised and revered beyond the limit of their actual capabilities, and wherever this happens there are Egos. The rock audience is neither the smartest nor the most discerning of audiences and most, while happy to watch lame facsimiles of popular overseas trends, are unable or unwilling to step beyond that comfort zone. So we contend that to a point a conscience is needed, and that we need to make a shift to championing originality and creativity”.

// that we need to make a shift to championing originality and creativity”.

Then of ALL the musicians in NZ, Why did you pick on Sam Scott? Aguably one of the most original and creative in the country?

The Anvil says "That is a story we heard and believe about a musician being too big to play a quiet gig on a Sunday night unless he could be paid more than the gig usually earns, you figure it out"

// unless he could be paid more than the gig usually earns

that is not Sams problem, that is the promoters fault.

//we need to make a shift to championing originality and creativity

Can you ask Teh Anvil where it is on his site he was championing originality and creativity? Looks to me like he's more interested in becoming famous for his renegade shit-stirring, and even then he doesn't do that particularly well.

Although the posting style makes me skim read the_anvil's posts, at least the_anvil talks about NZ music & has said some vaguely amusing stuff. (I think) I'd far rather get rid of Lucifer Spam, Jotun and lcajmo.

I don't think anyone wants to get rid of him.

too true megaccino, too true. sounds like we're gonna have to have a lynching.
while we're at it - how bout blink & anvil settle their differences in the manly styles of jelly wrestling. I'd bet $5 on blink.

this shit is boring. the public fighting and holier than thous are a waste of space. it's happening every day. when did we all become such experts and where did the arrogance come from? i think we all need a healthier dose of the real world than we're currently getting.

it's summer. go outside.

good call.

i think i'll go play some frisby. cheers man.

// it's summer. go outside.

i went outside. I got wet.

> i went outside. I got wet.

well that'll learn ya for listening to me ;)

// well that'll learn ya for listening to me ;)

or maybe god's cruel justice for my arrogant, holier-than-thou attitudes. ;)

bloody hell, the rain is now blowing up the hill at about 50km/h straight into the side of my work. how I love the wellington weather.

ahaha, I'd never seen this one before. very poor taste...

man, you come up some crazy stuff. i know i shouldn't have laughed, but i did.

Teh Robyn says: "As the first to suffer the Anvil's wrath on NZMusic.com, I have come to appreciate the deliciously evil insight that this large block of iron used in the crafting of horseshoes has come to offer us. A little dissent and ego deflation is probably a good thing. Surely we are grown-up enough to deal with it?"

Teh stºº says "Word to teh Robyn... seeuuu in rag-land for some drunken skankin"

¿does nz music need a duck cornchip?

Pantera

...rocks!

aside from the chit-chat and the (very well put) "holier-than-thou's", what kind of symbolic is the anvil for creativity and originality in music... if instruments are the tongs and hammer, the iron the music... then the anvil is the goddamn monotony and repressiveness against which music is created.... blahblah

The Anvil says 'If your metaphors were Martinis we'd be sending them back and exchanging them for the simplist of beers You Fool!,the Anvil is for harshness, for coldness, for ....

....Merry Xmas from the Anvil

looks more like prozaco to me.

My eyes hurt .... I don't know much about website design, but I think I can safely say that "The Anvil's" site is right up there with the McKay's ....

hows the "not looking at nzm.com for a month" thing working out for you ian?

i forgot.

thats hands down the worst use of a table ive ever seen on the interweb.

kinda reminds me of professor kaos from southpark really... "tremble puny earthlings!"
and what was this about sam scott? has he been raising the ire of la anvil? did he hide the tin foil or something?
cute website though i must say... i like the blinky xmas tree.
wish they'd taught Flash in sixth form when i was at school :-)

//i like the blinky xmas tree.

I'm starting to like Teh Anvil. Gothic tosspot with fairy lights.

//Gothic tosspot

Now I KNOW you've kidnapped Prozaco. Give her back (PLEASE ! ! ! )

people are picking up my phrase. i'm a trend setter, YEY!

This thread is boring...

For real.
Every thought needs a conscience, every music needs its opinions.
Conscience gotta be there. If not, its ph*ked.

The Anvil says" I was here but now I'm gone, but I left this site to turn you on"

lame

Have you checked out the site, Tama? The Anvil's done a pretty good job.
