Who knows the name of the dude who sings the smooth tune in the Dulux (or other paint) ad fetaured in tvnz recently? " ...somwhere over the rainbow...."
you should see a photo of him. He was 500 pounds when he died. 500 pounds of hawiian playing a teeny tiny ukelale...... oh my god, that's almost as funny as fat people falling over. sorry, but it is ;)
haha .. being employed by a rival paint company, i've always been amused by the utter tackiness of dulux's ads
all these happy painting people, and fluffy dogs.
90% of people paint because they have to, or it's their job. . .
the other 10% are invariably bored housewives or model railway enthusiasts
i would've thought with this housing/building boom on at the moment, and the fact that kiwis are pretty much obsessed with house-makeovers, a paint that has warm-fuzzy ads would be raking it in?
The Dulux ads are obviously not aimed at people whose job it is to paint, say, the interior of a giant industrial warehouse. The Dulux ads for for the home renovater, the DIY enthusiast, the person who watches "Changing Rooms" and thinks, "Ooh, I could do that!". The Dulux ads capture the imagination, show the posibilities of a fresh coat of paint and inspire people to paint.
//but most of the money in the paint industry is in the commercial sector...
Who no doubt get the paint much closer to cost than the average punter. It's all about the economics. The commercial sector is unlikely to grow, and while it will account for a big volume, relatively little profit. In contrast, there will be bigger profit margins in selling paint to DIYers, and like Air New Zealand's new cut price fares, they will be aiming to make people consider painting *more* often (ie, growing the market) as well as trying to entice new customers.
Of course, that's pure speculation on my part and I admit to knowing jack shit about paint, but it kinda makes sense from a general business viewpoint.
Has anyone else noticed how offten that song is turning up at the moment?
sound for end credits for a couple of movies, on the add and it was on that Joan of god programe as well.......
