Cheese on Toast

Akld based online gig-guide / portal thingy

Forums: The Bar,

some advice from a former music/internet industry professional

*** ditch the pic of the cheese on toast. it looks fucking disgusting. i'm not going to visit that site if I have to look at a pic of some greasy rank cheese every time.
*** ditch "news and bullshit" as a title. i clicked on it and there was no bullshit only news. if you think your news is bullshit then you have issues and should have worked them thru before launching the site.
*** ditch all that scrolling shit. it's fucking with my peripheral vision.
*** who the fuck are you? do you/yiz have any pride in your work? put your name behind it. anonyminity is for people being persecuted by a fascist regime, not music portal authors.
**** get some original content. there are other better NZ music web sites out there that have gig guides, music news and pics. if u want to survive, u will have to be different.

in some ways i think the cheese and toast in somewhat appropriate. It may not be appetising, but it is memorable, and that surely is a key marketing factor.

// ditch the pic of the cheese on toast. it looks fucking disgusting.

you're kidding, right?

that cheese on toast looks sooooooo good. after visiting the site for the first time, i went to the kitchen and made myself some cheese on toast (ala toast drowning in cheese). YUM!

i really like the site. i wouldn't have wanted my photos up there otherwise!

i like cheese *squeak*

so what have you got to show us MrPersona?

Mr former music industry professional:

who the fuck are you? do you have any pride in your opinion? put your name behind it. anonyminity is for people being persecuted by a fascist regime, not music portal reviewers.

nice pics ms. prozaco.

thanks mr rocktographer!

i went and made cheese on toast after the first time I hit the site too
nice!

I like it, I'd be proud to be part of it. It's obviously not gaining a shitload commercially (but really, what kind of site for the same purpose does in nz? Local indie music isn't a huge scene with unlimited resources.) I can only admire and respect people who put time and effort into something that they do as a non-paying side-project, especially such as this where it's for other peoples' interest, whether it be photographers, writers or designers.

Give it time, you don't get nzm.coms or punkas.coms or fuckin V gig guides overnight.

Right now, I see clearer than most
I sit here contented with this cheese on toast.

When I was a kid, life was easy
Cheesy vegemite toast really pleased me
Life was simple, Mum loved my dimples
Then I grew older and started getting pimples.

... I feel of the third world famine, dead-weight
we count dem blessin's and keep jammin...

Nice site! I love the whole fanzine look it's got going on- it's like your looking at something that's been hand-made (even though it's really just pixels, ones and zeroes)... well done!

we are looking for contributors

contact me via the site if you would liek to become invloved

Site is looking good Mr Geekboy. Another good music website i'm going to have to check daily...christ!!

What other sites do you check out daily?

hoooo... this is bizzaro

i offered a little advise of things i reckon would improve cheese on toast. i did not say cheese on toast was a shithouse webpage.

but various peoples freaked out and acted like i had dissed it. even ppl who had nothing to do with the site joined in the freaking out.

ive obviously hit a raw nerve for some ppl. if what id said had no basis in the truth people would be going "huh?? wtf????" instead of "who are you! how are you!!!!" (prozaco did go wtf to the cheese comment so im thinking maybe i dont like it just cos im a vego)

but i notice geek boy didn't freak out so good for him.

here is one more bit of advise:

*** running a contribution based website is friggin hard work. it takes a lot more than going 'we are looking for contributors contact me via the site if you would liek to become invloved' to get people to contribute. if your not paying people then you have to push them even harder to come up with stuff because money is a great motivator but 'lots of people will see your stuff' or 'it will look good on your cv' is not.

cold hard facts: communal websites that rely on submitting via email (not like nzmusic through forums or like a communal blog where ppl can update at their leisure) dont last long. they are hard work and people get tired of having to crack the nice whip on the bottoms of their contributers. if cheese on toast doesnt up its game soon i doubt it will be around this time next year.

NOT HURTING. HELPING

// cold hard facts: communal websites that rely on submitting via email (not like nzmusic through forums or like a communal blog where ppl can update at their leisure) dont last long.

maybe, when run by a knob such as yourself. Geekboys old site was running for ages...i find there are no shortage of contributors in NZ. We are lucky to be in such a supportive community. Constructive critiscm is welcomed, but you can fuck off with your "doom and gloom" attitude.

Money? I said I'd contribute purely in return for sexual favours. *sleazy grin*

// prozaco did go wtf to the cheese comment

thats because i REALLY like cheese.

you seem very negative about the future of cheeseontoast.co.nz... have you had a bad experience? it looks to me like people are happy to contribute to the site (even without making money... fancy that!).

//I said I'd contribute purely in return for sexual favours. *sleazy grin*

*sleazier grin back*

i dunno, your tone was pretty harsh and holier than thou. a lot of people don't like that. it seems that most other people liked the site, so ultimately it's doing something well

there's no right, there's no wrong. people decide for themselves. there are no absolutes - especially on the www. your post indicated there was.

//there's no right, there's no wrong. people decide for themselves. there are no absolutes -

totally true..(but not absolutly true, haha) .. i think advice that is dripping of too much hate triggers the switch off valve in all of us .. rendering it useless, defunct, a rotting corpse...ewwww yuk

luv the site geekboy.. have just spent the best part of an hour exploring... i was won over instantly when i fired her up and the fanatics were pumping out... nice lil animations around the show too

YAY!kool site.keep up good work!
