The Checks were very entertaining. Nice to see some Mick Jagger/Rod Stewart/David Bowie influence coming out at the RQ. very cool.

have to say i prefer the english accents and the jagger swagger, came off quite well in comparison to the other bands
have to ask, are all those bands so boring in live, as in not on video, in person??? thats whats struck me most about this rockquest...

its kinda wrong to base opinions on these bands from one taped performance where the mix was terrible. So I'll avoid making comment. Are all The Checks's songs as "strokesish" as the one on TV?
the vocals from the band that won were ...
the vocals from the band that won were dreadful. totally out of tune and key.
And you could tell what that punk band that played last were gonna sound like without even hearing them. Although I guess that's the whole stage-uniform-whatever-the-fuck deal with Rockquest.. gotta look the part :P
not that i saw the episode, but the ...
not that i saw the episode, but the times i have heard falter live i was really impressed with their vocals. but as i said, i didn't see the episode.
Yea the harmonizing wasn't beneficial ...
Yea the harmonizing wasn't beneficial to the band at all, I think that so often bands may have a good lead singer but can't pull off decent harmonies, and this was really highlighted on TV with the mix of sound. At the actual final it didn't sound as bad as on tv, but that's definately someting falter need to work on.
i think you'l find it was the ...
i think you'l find it was the harmonies that let falter down, the lead singer was pretty spot on and other times ive seen them live his vox are all good. Besides simon got best vocals.....so im sure he got that for a reason ;) I think there choice of song wasn't the best either. As blink says somewhere i wouldnt judge bands by T.V its shit mixes. Go see the band live before judging

Yes. I have to agree with myself there.
I have seen falter before and while the singer is no Tom Jones, he was a damn sight better then that poor flat, tone deaf fullah who sung at the RQ finals. Maybe a case of poor foldbacks? poor choice of melody in that song?? who knows...
I mean....it must be the TV right?..i mean going from that vidoe footage Mission Gizzard seemed to be just another run of the mill teen pop-punk/rock wannabe blink-182 but "we think we're harder" band. But people seem to like them on these forums...so maybe I'll back off.

I watched the final from 2002 this afternoon and from what I heard of 'Phoenics Rising' aka Falter, the harmonising then was fine, and it sounded alright. I think maybe just a new harmony needs to be sussed out for that particualr song, and definately check that the balance is sorted, but I blame that on the TV.
That was the completely wrong song to ...
That was the completely wrong song to show of Falter, believe me i've seen them like 6 or 7 times this year and last year and that was the worst id heard them, you wouldve had to see the other songs they performed (Splinter and Falling to Pieces) before you could judge them. The harmonising was so wrong for that song but its amazing in the others. Simon did win bets vocals for a reason and thats because he can sing....

I thought the checks were great, I was hoping they would get somewhere. They just had a cool stage presence, and attitude and i liked their sound. Mayby I'm just a cliche because I like alot of definitive article bands though... but i do think they were very good. But well done to all the bands, grannypash were adorable. And I can't say anything about mission gizzard cause my opinions would be affected by the fact that jeromy is cool. It would have been fun to have gone to the actual show, but I think the d4 were on the same night, I cant remember. Once again well done all the bands that were on, impressive that they all kind of tried to work the crowd.

fuck it
those bands probably are goodish bands
go see them live 3-4 times
then if they still suck
